Joan Shirley (Martelli) Critelli

Mrs. Joan Shirley (Martelli) Critelli, age 68, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2006, at the Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, OH. Born in Utica on July 4, 1938, Joan was the daughter of Theresa (DiAndrea) Martelli and the late Raymond Martelli. For many years she was employed as a Claims Agent with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utica. Gifted with a truly kind and loving heart, Joan was ever conscientious and attentive in providing for the happiness of her family. As an easy-going and good-natured woman, she loved being in the company of others and derived great enjoyment from the companionship of her loved ones and friends. A foremost priority in her life was to please others, and she was both selfless and unwavering in accomplishing that goal. One of her favorite pastimes was rollerblading, an activity which she enjoyed right up until her illness prevented its further pursuit. Joan was currently a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, and she maintained a great fondness for her childhood parish, St. Agnes Church. Mrs. Critelli is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Russ and Lisa Critelli of Huron, OH, and Ernest and Cynthia Critelli of Utica; and her grandchildren, Morgan, Hannah, Lucas, Alexandra, and Connor. She is also survived by her mother, Theresa Martelli of Utica; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Albert Grimaldi of Utica, and Patricia and Joseph Caramato of Tampa, FL; the father of her children, Joseph P. Critelli; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and her in-laws, James and Katherine Critelli, and Lillian Hughes. She also leaves many dear and cherished friends and co-workers who will miss her very much. Joan was predeceased by a beloved grandson, Chad Critelli; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ernest and Lora (Pietraface) Critelli; and her in-laws, Diana Marie Falchi and Anthony J. Falchi, Sr. and John "Jack" Hughes. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Joan's honor to Stein Hospice (1400 Sycamore Lane, Sandusky, OH 44870) or to the Seigenthaler Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mrs. Critelli's funeral will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery.
