Mrs. Joanne L. (Ruggiero) Sabino

UTICA - Mrs. Joanne L. (Ruggiero) Sabino, age 86, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at MVHS at St. Luke’s Healthcare. Born on October 29, 1931, Joanne was the daughter of the late Victor and Lucia “Lucy” (Robertino) Ruggiero. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1949. On January 17, 1953 she married Peter Sabino with whom she shared 65 loving years prior to his passing on February 24, 2018. When her children were young, Joanne felt blessed to be a stay-at-home mom. When her children were older, Joanne worked as the Assistant Manager at Cramer’s Half Size Shop in the New Hartford Shopping Center, the position from which she retired. Joanne’s family was the core of her life, and she found great joy in running her home and cooking, especially for the holidays. Joanne and Peter enjoyed wonderful holidays, special events and vacations due to the generosity of their children. She was treasured by her children and the many close friendships she made over the years. Joanne was a resident of Acacia Village and enjoyed the camaraderie as well as her beloved Acacia Village Chorus. Whether a book or a newspaper, she could never pass up a good read or a chance to catch up on current events. A woman of faith, Joanne prayed to her patron Saint Anthony and was a parishioner of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes for more than 40 years. Joanne is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Wayne Mickiewicz, Lucy and William Miller, Joanne and Keith Pope, and Christine and William Kiesel III; and her grandchildren, Alyssa and Daniel Tenney, Victoria Kiesel, and Alexandra Kiesel. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law, Shirley Sabino, and Theresa “Terry” Sabino. She was predeceased by her in-laws, Josephine C. and Salvatore P. LoGalbo Sr., Rose and Albert Martorella, Sam M. Sabino, Raymond and Joann Sabino, Madeline and Dominick Cittadino, and Arthur Sabino; and her nephews, Peter Cittadino, and Dominick “Donnie” Cittadino. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 - 6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Joanne’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Fr. Joseph Salerno. Committal prayers will take place in Calvary Chapel followed by Entombment in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joanne’s honor may be made to the Young Scholars at Utica College, 1600 Burrstone Rd., Utica, NY 13502; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
