Joan (Borek) Pentasuglia

Mrs. Joan (Borek) Pentasuglia, age 89, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2007, at the St. Luke’s Home with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on January 22, 1918, Joan was the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Kaczor) Borek. She was raised and educated in Utica, and at one time she had been married to Dominick Azzarito. On November 11, 1949 she married Frank “Hank” Pentasuglia with whom she shared 47 years until his passing on August 4, 1997. The couple shared in a truly devoted and compatible relationship. Joan was employed by the Univac Corp as an assembler and retired in 1971. A loving and caring woman, she had a likeable personality, and she enjoyed her home and loved her family. She was a communicant on St. Anthony of Padua Church. Joan is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Richard D. and Maryrose Azzarito of New Hartford, Gerald Azzarito of Florida, and Frank Pentasuglia of Utica. Also surviving are her grandchildren and their families, Christine and David Pandolf, Richard D. Azzarito, Jr., Debbie Azzarito and Doug Morasco, Lisa and Chad Burny, Gerald, Jr. and Angela Azzarito, Patrick Azzarito, Lisa and Bill Coleman, and Corey Pentasuglia and his mother Lynda. She also leaves several great-grandchildren. In addition, she leaves her sister, Helen Krysiak of Clinton; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and her in-laws, Ann Pentasuglia, Esther and Edward Curran, Lucy and Vito Collucci, Martin Pentasuglia, Joseph Pentasuglia, Peter Pentasuglia, and Catherine Pentasuglia. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Ann Borek, and Edward and Sadie Borek; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertha and John Zwierecki, Emily and Steve Losota, and Genevieve and Jerry Zegarelli; and her brother-in-law, Edward Krysiak. Sincere appreciation is extended to Dr. Dilip Kachare, Dr. Samuel T. Rubino, and the St. Luke’s Home staff of Barton East, especially Susan and Lisa, for their personal attention to caring for Joan. In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joan’s Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
