Jessie R. (Greco) Durdan

Mrs. Jessie (Greco) Durdan, age 84, formerly of Utica and more recently of the Lutheran Home, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the home with her dedicated and loving family by her side. Born in Utica on August 9, 1927, Jessie was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Angelina (DeFazio) Greco. She was raised here and attended local schools. At one time she was married to Stanley J. Swiecki, a marriage which was blessed with three daughters. On September 9, 1978 she married Frederick E. Durdan, Jr. with whom she shared a 27 year union filled with their unfailing love and mutual devotion until his passing on July 30, 2005. Mrs. Durdan was a dedicated and conscientious housewife and many knew her compassionate guidance. Blessed with a warm and generous heart and a unique and affectionate sense of humor, she was a woman of simple needs who expended her best efforts caring for others. She taught her daughters the values by which she lived her own life, her personal philosophy being that it is of primary importance to be a good person and that the key to achieving that goal is to treat others as you would like to be treated. Jessie loved to spend time in her yard and in her garden, using her gifted “green thumb” to make every flower bloom beautifully and every shrub grow perfectly. Jessie enjoyed browsing garage sales and visiting with people. She was of the Catholic Faith and prayed the rosary daily. Mrs. Durdan is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Stephen Donowick of Wichita, KS, Cynthia “Cindy” and Gordon “Butch” James of Whitesboro, and Debra Chrobak of Clinton; and her grandchildren, Matthew Donowick, Nicole Donowick; Alison James; Ryan Chrobak, Justin Chrobak, Brendan Chrobak, Jordan Chrobak and their father Kevin Chrobak and his parents, Rudy and Shirley. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 sisters, Connie Madden, Rose Chiarello, and Carmella Pettinato; and her brother, Joseph Greco. Jessie’s family would like to thank the entire staff of the Mapleview Unit at the Martin Luther Home for their dedication and compassionate care. Visitation will be held on Saturday (today) from 2-4 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mrs. Durdan’s funeral will commence immediately upon the conclusion of visitation at 4:00 with Rev. John Flanagan officiating. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
