Mr. James R. "Moose" "Ron" Montana

Mr. James R. “Ron” “Moose” Montana, age 78, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on February 19, 1936, James was the son of the late James and Margaret (Giancotti) Montana. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On June 22, 1963 he married the former Genevieve Salerno with whom he shared a loving and devoted union of 41 years prior to her passing on October 7, 2004. James served his community as a Utica Firefighter for many years, retiring as a Lieutenant. He was proud to have been part of the original Paramedic/EMT team in Utica. Concurrently, he was employed with the St. Elizabeth Hospital as a surgical technician. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the former Sons of Italy Lodge #2054. He was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John’s Church where he was a proud and devoted member of the choir. James is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Jane and Thomas B. Russell of New Hartford; his son and daughter-in-law, James V. and Lorraine C. Montana of Redding, CA; his grandchildren, Dominica Dziedzic, Michael Dziedzic, Christopher Russell, Shania Russell, Paige Russell; Jimmy Montana, Ryan Montana, Kinsey Boruff, Tiana Sandoval; his great-grandchildren, Phoenix Boruff, Trinity Boruff, Delilah Boruff, and Caden Sandoval; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Phyllis Montana, and Raymond and Joan Montana. His extended family includes his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Vinnie and Albert Casatelli of Utica; and his friend, Vincent Parrella. He was predeceased by his brothers, Frank A. Montana, and Joseph Montana; and his sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Joseph “Butch” Trevisani, and Elizabeth “Betty Jane” Montana. The family will gather privately to honor James’ life. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. John Buehler. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the Historic Old St. John’s Church Memorial Fund; envelopes will be available at the service. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
