Mr. James Acey Howard, Sr.

UTICA - Mr. James Acey Howard Sr., age 63, passed away peacefully in the comfort and dignity of his home on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. At the time of his passing, he was in the hearts of his family and his loved ones. Born in Newburgh, NY, on March 16, 1960, James was the son of the late James C. Howard and Katherine (Heidelburg) Howard. In 1989, James relocated to Utica, where he had resided for the past 34 years. Since 2003, James shared a special and loving relationship with Tracy L. Lilley. At one time, James had been employed in the maintenance departments of the Bank of Commerce, Donovan Middle School, and, lastly, at MVCC, from which he retired. Although James was known to have a tough demeanor, he had an incredibly soft and loving heart. He absolutely adored his family, and was a phenomenal father. He always gave his fullest, and the best of the best to those that he loved. He taught his children valuable lessons that they will never forget and continue to carry on with them. He left gems of wisdom with those that he cared about, sharing his life experiences and what he learned along the way. James absolutely loved sports, especially the NFL, and he was a big fan and rooter of the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys! James enjoyed basketball and watching wrestling as well. James is survived by his children, James A. Howard Jr, Eddie L. Howard, Earl C. Howard, Tekeya M. Howard, Travon D. Howard, Jacari J. McBride, Jaquay M. McBride, Quinnetta D. Lilley, Kerri B. Rucker, Benjamin W. Rucker, and DeMorris L. Reed Sr. James also leaves to cherish his memory a host of grandchildren, especially acknowledging Nayanna L. Carter and Ni-Asia R. Carter. He is survived by his sisters, Gustina A. (Howard) Butler and Sadie E. Howard; brothers, Ricky N. Culbreth, Nathaniel Howard, and Dwayne A. Howard; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. James was known to also have many good friends throughout his life, that he deeply cared for. On behalf of the Howard Family, gratitude is extended to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. and to all of those who were there for James in a tremendous time of need as he transitioned, for this the family is forever grateful. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. James’ Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
