Mr. James "Jim" DePastene

DEERFIELD – Mr. James “Jim” DePastene, age 72, a lifelong resident of Utica, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2025, with his family by his side after a 10 year long battle with cancer. Born on August 9, 1952, Jim was the son of the late Frank and Florence (DiPillo) DePastene. He was raised and educated in Utica. On June 22, 1985, Jim married the former Kim Percola. They shared 39 years of love which was filled with many beautiful memories. Jim was a master carpenter who in his early years worked alongside his father building, renovating, and restoring many homes in the area. He later joined the Carpenters Union, eventually retiring from Putrelo Construction Co. as a project manager. For a short time after retirement Jim worked at the Utica Memorial Auditorium doing building maintenance. He worked on several projects where his craftmanship and attention to detail were put to use. Jim had many hobbies and interests. In his younger days he loved to bowl; at one time he belonged to three leagues and enjoyed going to the out-of-town tournaments. He also enjoyed skiing, dirt bike riding, hiking and camping in the Adirondacks, and his many trips to Saratoga and the Lake George area. Jim is survived by his wife, Kim; children and spouses, James and Dr. Bhavini DePastene, Christopher DePastene and Lesley Smith, and Dr. Alexandra DePastene; and a cherished granddaughter, Rania DePastene. He also leaves behind his in-laws, mother-in-law, Palma Percola (who sadly passed away two days after Jim), Laura and Dave Battelene, Michael Percola, Maryrose and Scott Tucker, Angela Percola, and Michael Dziura. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews and their children. He is additionally survived by many lifelong friends with special mention of his neighbors, Louie and Rebecca LaPorte, who Jim and Kim could never thank enough for all that they did. Jim will be happy to be reunited with his loved ones who passed before him; his parents; his sister, Joanne Dziura; his brother, Frank DePastene; and his father-in-law, Nicholas Percola.
