Mr. Jackie L. "Jack" Styles

UTICA - Mr. Jackie L. “Jack” Styles, age 67, went to be with his Lord when he passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in Rome, New York on April 9, 1951, Jackie was the son of the late Elsie and Catherine (Bryant) Styles. He attended Elementary school in Rome and T.R. Proctor High School when his family moved to Utica. He began working at a young age in a variety of vocations and locations. He held positions at Rome Cable, New York Central Railroad as a cook (which was a job he loved), an attendant at St. Elizabeth Hospital/Psychiatric Ward, and Fiberdyne Labs, Incorporated. After his retirement, he ventured into his last position as a Patient Care Attendant at the Resource Center for Independent Living where he also watched over his beloved granddaughter, Shakiyla. Throughout his life, many would have remembered him as “a dispenser of spirits”, especially at Bengee’s as well as other local taverns. Blessed with a bright spirit, Jack was a generous, light-hearted person. He loved to laugh, socialize, and party hardy. Whenever there was a gathering, he would light up the room, drop a few jokes, and get his plate and go home. He never held a grudge, especially with his family. A blessed man who could tell many funny stories, but all could testify that he couldn’t drive for nothing!!! He had a love of music, from Rhythm & Blues to Gospel, and no matter what genre he was listening to, it was at a max volume. He also became an “Infomercial King” and would buy the craziest things in abundance. He loved Montgomery Ward and had the latest catalogues out on the table with articles of interest circled. Jack enjoyed playing darts, shooting pool, bowling, and was the spectator to a good boxing match or basketball game. He had a thing for the news and would peruse the channels for updated information. He enjoyed classic tv heroes on the grit channel, especially Clint Eastwood in old Westerns, Bruce Lee, and other Karate flicks. But his greatest joy was the blessing of his six children, and he knew each of them in a unique way. He will be remembered as a lover,… not a fighter. Jackie loved the Lord and was always working on his relationship with him, especially on Sunday morning when he watched the service on TV on high volume which inspired him to dance and praise the Lord. Jack was friends with Pastor March; they had lots of talks, and “Pastor knew where he lived”. Jackie is survived by his children, Simon Davis, Jackie L. Styles, Jack L. Styles, Zachary M. Styles (Ana Lanz), Brianna M. Styles, and Nietha McCovery. He was Grandpa to Simon Jr., Octavia, Jacqedda, Antoine, and Tati; Shakiyla, Vincent, Toni, Jayla, Jayden, Evonni; Silas, and Juliana; Antonio, Keonte, and Shakerria; and many great-grandchildren. He will be remembered by his siblings and their loved ones, Lawrence (Melinda Huff) Styles, Rev. Deborah Styles-Wright and fiancé Willie Gary, and Stephen and Concepcion “Susanna” Styles. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and cousins. Jack was graced with special friends, especially Oscar, and Romey. There were many fun times with many good friends throughout the years. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Loretta Stough. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Jackie’s funeral service and Home Going Celebration will commence on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Rev. March and Jack’s sister, Rev. Deborah Styles-Wright officiating the ceremony. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
