Mrs. Irmgard M. (Schilling) Schriever

NEW HARTFORD – Mrs. Irmgard M. (Schilling) Schriever, passed very peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, November 20, 2023, while in the company of her husband and family. Born in Singen, Germany on October 20, 1929, Irmgard was the daughter of the late Johannes and Maria Theresia (Schniederhan) Schilling, and her late stepmother, Rosa Schilling. She was raised and resided as a young adult in Germany. She came to the United States in 1958, settling in Syracuse. In Syracuse on October 22, 1960, she wed Oskar “Dieter” Schriever. Their 63-year union has proved to be a blessing of happiness and good fortune for both of them. Ever a compliment and credit to her husband, Irmgard was proud of their heritage and common sacrifice. In 1965, she and Oskar established their home in New Hartford. They were so delighted with living in the United States that one of the first things they did when they bought their house was display an American flag outside. Irmgard considered her family and her home her primary concerns. She gave them all of her life and heart. An exemplary woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was also a conscientious and meticulous homemaker, who truly knew the secret of making a house a home. Her first priority was always building the most loving and strong relationships with her husband and children. She was always willing to contribute her time and efforts to various community causes and projects, especially her extensive volunteer work with GE ELFUNS and the Utica Maennerchor. Among her favorite leisure activities and pastimes, she especially enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting. She could often be found spending time in her garden, creating a bountiful harvest of both flowers and vegetables. She was a generous hostess, and doted over her guests. She was a wonderful cook and always made sure no one left her house hungry. Her Catholic faith ran deep in her soul. She prized her German Bible and always wore a cross necklace. Irmgard is survived by her beloved and devoted husband, Oskar; her children and their spouses, Marina and Christopher Kistner, and Kevin and Denise Schriever; grandchildren, Kyle and Brandy Kistner, Steven Kistner and Joshua Bateman, Erin Schriever, and Lindsey R. Schriever; and great-grandchildren Mackenzie Ann, and Owen Kistner. Her survivors also include her sister-in-law, Dorothy Schilling; her nieces and nephews, Suzanne and Ralph Rotunno, and Lisa and John Caldwell; and her many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as a host of cousins in Syracuse and Germany. She was also blessed with many dear and loyal friends, especially Vincent and Esther Grimaldi, Monika and Josef Hall, with special thanks and love to her home health aide and friend, Tamala Burke. Irmgard was predeceased by her brothers, Johannes “Hans” Schilling and his wife Beverly, and Edmund “Eddy” Schilling; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Heinz and Martha Schriever; her brother-in-law, Karl Heinz Schriever, who passed during World War II; and her neighbors who were like family, Joseph and Lee Cianciolo. The family wishes to thank the Presbyterian Home of CNY, who provided comforting, and loving care. They admired the mutual love that Irmgard and Dieter shared. “One person caring about another represents life’s greatest love.” Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Irmgard’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Irmgard’s honor may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Inurnment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
