Mrs. Ida S. (DeCuffa) Capraro

UTICA/GREENSBORO, NC - Mrs. Ida S. (DeCuffa) Capraro, age 96, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2023. Born in Utica on October 25, 1926, Ida was the daughter of the late Gerardo and Assunta (Palazzo) DeCuffa. She attended local schools. On November 8, 1947 she married Philip R. Capraro, Sr. An affectionate and devoted couple, Ida and Phil gladly accepted the challenges and shared the joys of family life with commitment, generosity, and love for over 68 years prior to his passing on December 8, 2015. At one time Ida was employed in an assembly position at General Electric’s radio receiver plant on Bleecker St. She then worked for the Sperry-Rand Corp., later known as UNIVAC, in a similar role. Although she always provided responsible and conscientious service in the workplace, Ida considered her foremost priorities to be her husband, her children, and her home. Ida was an admirable woman who devoted herself to her family with unconditional love, steadfast commitment, and compassionate understanding. She claimed that the years were successful because of love. She was a wonderful cook who will always be remembered for the superb dishes she prepared and the sincere hospitality she shared. Ida loved attending dances and social events at the Moose Lodge. In their retirement years, Ida and Phil enjoyed traveling together. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Ida is survived her sons, Philip R. Capraro, Jr., and Gerald Capraro, Sr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Wayne Smith; her grandchildren, Sonia Phoenix, Kelly Capraro, Dr. Gerald Capraro, Jr., Michelle Capraro, Robert Smith, and Steven Smith; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and her sister-in-law, Nedia DeCuffa (the late Albert “Baba” DeCuffa). She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Dominick “Deacon” and Frances DeCuffa, Giacomo “Jack” DeCuffa, and Marie and Angelo Christiano; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas and Josephine (Flori) Capraro; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alexander Capraro, Joseph Capraro, Louis and Connie Capraro, John T., Sr. and Mamie Capraro, Patrick and Angela Capraro, Caroline Capraro, Rose Capraro, Assunta “Suzie” Deering, Lucille A. and Edward Calenzo, Violet and Dominick A. Calenzo, Sr.; and her nephew, Daniel T. Deering. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Ida’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
