Herbert L. Perkins

Mr. Herbert L. “Herbie” Perkins, Jr., age 71, of Utica, passed away at St. Elizabeth Medical Center on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on May 20, 1936, Herbie was the son of the late Herbert L., Sr., and Florence (Weaver) Perkins. He was raised and educated in West Winfield. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he honorably completed his military service in 1963. On June 7, 1990 he married the former Carmella (DeBernardis) Noti. The couple shared a blessed union graced with love and togetherness. Herbert was a longtime employee of Chicago Pneumatic Co., and also a retired member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Worker. He retired in 1997 after 38 years of loyal service. A quiet man with a caring heart, he was always there for his family with his love and support. He had a natural willingness to listen in a nonjudgmental way, and his family and friends could not help but appreciate his fine qualities. During his leisure time, he took pleasure in playing the guitar and listening to Hank Williams music. He was an avid NY Yankees fan, and enjoyed the years at his camp at Hinkley Lake. He valued the excitement, love, and enjoyable times with the DeBernardis and Noti clans. He was a member of the American Legion Post #229. Herbie is survived by his wife Carmella; his children and their families, Diane Perkins and her companion Mike, Debora Brunner and her companion Tim, and Mark Perkins; his grandchildren, Allyson Perkins, Sarah and Kevin Longway, Duane and Cara Briggs, and Wayne Brunner; and his 5 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his step-children, who he adored: John and Eileen Noti, Angela and Leon Hare, Salvatore, Jr. and Karen Noti, and Kathi and Randy Wheatley; his step-grandchildren, John, Jr., Robert, and Patrick; Leon, Jr., Adam, Carmella, and Joseph; Rachael, Nicole and Salvatore III; and Derek and Austin; and his 12 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Myrtle Perkins of Waterville; his nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Dr. Mike Albainy, Theresa Russo, Lucy LeoGrande, Elvira and Clarence Williams, Marie and John Carbone, Jr., Serafino “Sam” and Rosemary DeBernardis, and Rita R. Davis. He was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Albainy, and his brother, Lloyd G. Perkins. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for the fine care extended to Herbie. Visitation will be held Thursday (today) from 4:00 – 6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Herbie’s Celebration of Life and funeral service with Military Honors, which will commence at 6:00 in the evening at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family
