Helen B. (Price) Szalkowski

Mrs. Helen B. (Price) Szalkowski, age 93, of New Hartford, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the Albany Medical Center with her family by her side. Born in Plains, Pennsylvania on September 4, 1912, Helen was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Zabrowski) Price. She was raised and educated in Plains. On December 7, 1933 she married Anthony S. Szalkowski with whom she shared a loving and devoted union of 28 years prior to his passing on February 12, 1962. At the time of their marriage, Helen and Anthony established their home in Utica. For a number of years, she provided loyal and conscientious service as a housekeeper for several area families. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She dedicated herself totally to the well-being of her family and offered them her love, her support, and her guidance. She took an interest in all of the activities and endeavors of her loved ones and derived well-deserved pride from them and from their accomplishments. She was of the Catholic Faith. Mrs. Szalkowski is survived by her children and their spouses, Barbara A. and James B. Howard of Oswego, Dorothy F. and Michael S. Evolo of Whitesboro, and Anthony S. and Mary E. (Showa) Szalkowski of Ashburn VA. She cherished in her heart the memory of her son, William F. Szalkowski who passed away in January of 1999. Helen's survivors also include her daughter-in-law, Doris Szalkowski of Rome; her grandchildren, James R. Howard II of Ogdensburg, Mark A. and Deborah Howard of N. Syracuse, Michael J. and Suanne Howard of Oswego, Michael S. Jr. and Melissa Evolo of Whitesboro, Gina M. Evolo of Garner, NC, Dr. Mary Ellen Evolo and Dr. Milton Hsu of NYC, Dr. Christina Langdon and her husband, Robert of Hoboken, NJ, Lisa M. and Donald Catello of South Riding, VA, Kelly Ann and Bradford Lovelace of Harrogate England, William and Tina Szalkowski of Oriskany, Rhonda and Patrick McGovern of Westmoreland, and Brett Szalkowski and his wife of Baltimore; and 17 cherished great-grandchildren. In addition, her survivors include a sister, Stella Yashemski of Plains, PA; a brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Ellie Price, also of Plains; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was predeceased by four sisters and five brothers. Visitation will be held today (Friday) from 5-8 at the Nunn & McGrath Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd. Mrs. Szalkowski's funeral will commence on Saturday morning at 8:00 from the funeral home and at 9:00 at St. Anne's Church in Whitesboro where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
