Mr. Harry "Harold" Bivens

UTICA- Mr. Harry “Harold” Bivens, age 71, transitioned to heaven on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, with the love and support of his family by his side. Harry was born on December 7, 1951, in Bartow, FL, to the late Clarence and Isabelle (Johnson) Bivens. He was raised and educated in Polk County, FL. Harry started his working career along the east coast picking in-season fruit and vegetables for farms. Always a hard worker, Harold came to Utica around 1978 and was employed at Utica Radiator until their closing. He went on to work for O-W Hubble & Sons, now known as Hubble Galvanizing, the position from which he retired. On September 14, 2013, Harry married Cynthia Patterson. They could always find a reason to laugh and smile. They shared a love of music, concerts, spontaneity, and mutual respect for one another. Harry was an all-around nice guy who loved dancing, fishing, and grilling. He loved his family gatherings, and appreciated a good meal and friendships made at a party, and enjoyed dressing up for the occasion. With his green thumb, he knew how to garden, especially peppers and he always shared his bounty. He was a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Every year he looked forward to choosing a new place to travel to for vacation, as well as the annual July Thousand Islands trip. He loved the fishing and enjoyed the views from the water’s edge. He was a member of the Corn Hill Fish & Game Club. Harry is survived by his wife, Cynthia; and his daughter, Aaliyah Bivens and her son. He is also survived by his siblings, twin sister Elder Harriet Bivens, Gloria Skipworth (predeceased by brother-in-law “Skip”), and Loretta Boone. He was predeceased by his siblings, Clarence Bivens, Jr., and Suzette Williams. He leaves behind his sister-in-law, Betty Bivens; a host of nieces and nephews including Darrell and Shirelle Bivens, Jamel Moyer, Bryan Patterson, Sr., Isabelle Spencer, and Tony Jones; great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and in-laws, Patricia Patterson, Daniel Patterson Jr., Oscar Patterson with whom he shared a close friendship, Elizabeth Patterson-Moyer, and Booker Patterson. He cherished friendships with Jesse Patterson, Les Dawson, Alexander Steele, and Stephon Bennett. Harry was predeceased by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lois Wilcox, Samuel Patterson, Willie Lou Patterson, and Floyd Patterson. A special thank you is extended to Doug Brown, Sr., for taking care of Harold and Cynthia’s home as if it were his own. Thanks as well to Elder Bernice Brown, Ms. Patricia Derek, and Ms. Rhonda Wells. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Harry’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the funeral home at 5:00 p.m. Interment will take place on Friday, June 2, 2023 in Forest Hill Cemetery.
