Guy A. Danella

Guy A. Danella Utica Mr. Guy A. Danella, well-known Utica artist, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at his home. He was 78 years of age. Born in Utica on February 14, 1928, Guy was the son of the late Thomas and Mildred (Tedesco) Danella. Guy began his professional art studies under the direction of E.N. Clark and Oscar Wiesbuck at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute. He continued his studies with Hans Hoffmann at the Art Students League in New York City. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Syracuse University where he studied with Josef Albers. Guy was the owner and artistic director of Danella Studios, and throughout his life was a successful and multi-talented commercial artist. He has been a mentor and inspiration to countless students and artists. His own paintings and portraits have been exhibited in art shows throughout the country. Over the course of his career, he illustrated a number of books, the most recent being a children’s book called “Remmy and the Brain Train.” Guy will be truly missed by his family, former wife and friend Rose DeCarlo, friends, and former students. He is survived by two daughters, Carla Danella of London, England, and Ann Danella and Julio Valdez of Tucson AZ; and his grandchildren, DelMar Danella and Giovanni Danella Valdez. His survivors also include his sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Anthony Zangrilli of New Hartford; many nieces and nephews, including Tony Jr. and Coleen Zangrilli, Bernadette and Jerry DeMauro, Christopher and Lynda Zangrilli, Donna and Dennis Osano, and Nancy Zangrilli Manley; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a number of beloved cousins. The family offers sincere thanks to Guy’s wonderful neighbors, the Weber and VanHatten families, and to the officers of the UPD and all those who provided assistance, support, and concern upon the occasion of his passing. In keeping with Guy’s wishes, there will be no visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Guy’s Memorial Service and Celebration of Life which will be conducted on Friday afternoon at 1:00 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service.
