Gregory Prylepa

Mr. Gregory Prylepa, age 80, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his family by his side. Born in the Ukraine on November 10, 1932, Gregory was the son of the late Martin and Marta Prylepa. He was raised and educated in the Ukraine and thereafter lived in Germany and also South America until immigrating to the United States in 1955. On June 9, 1983 he married the former Mary Samijlenko with whom he shared 29 years; they participated in many common hobbies and interests and they practiced the same faith. Gregory was employed with Mohawk Containers for over thirty years. He was a hard worker and a go-getter and as a patriarch he was even-tempered, tolerant, and indulgent. His grandchildren affectionately knew him as “Gidu” and because of his generosity they designated him as “The Dollar Grandfather”. He enjoyed singing and dancing with his beloved Mary at any and all occasions. As a young man, he engaged in the recreational sport of soccer. Gregory is survived by his wife, Mary; his step-daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and John Wisheart of Stittville, Nina and Frank Mucitelli of Deerfield, and Olga and George May of Holland Patent; his step-son, Nick Sharuda of Utica; his grandchildren, Josh Wisheart, Jeremy and Bobbie Wisheart, Nicole Sharuda, JaNay Mucitelli, JoVon Mucitelli, and JaCob Mucitelli; and his great-grandchildren, Marissa, Riley, Madison, and Brayden Wisheart. He also leaves his sister, Maria Czorniy of Greenbush, NY; his brother and sister-in-law, Wasyl and Valintina Prylepa of North Utica; many nieces, nephews, especially George and Irene, Mick and Debbie, Paul and Joan, Helen and Bill and their families; cousins, and in-laws Nick and Lizette Samijlenko of VA. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jochym Prylepa, and Yuriy Prylepa. The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to Dr. Bhisham Garg, Dr. Sultana Razia, and their staffs for their dedication and concern for Gregory. They would also like to thank them for their involvement and compassion shown to each of the family members. Thanks also to the Palliative Care team for being so helpful and gracious to their family and consistently exceeding expectations while insuring that every need was met. To the personnel of the 6th floor at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, your interest and dedication was realized from the time of admission to the passing of our beloved Gregory. Thank you. Your kindness will never be forgotten. The family will honor and commemorate Gregory’s life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday morning at 11:00 at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, 296 Genesee Street, where his Funeral Mass will be offered by Rev. Michael Bundz. Interment will take place graveside in St. Vladimir Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
