Grace M. (Mannella) Domenicone

Mrs. Grace M. (Mannella) Domenicone, age 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Masonic Care Community of NY with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on June 23, 1915, Grace was the daughter of the late Bruno and Maria (Fava) Mannella. She was raised and educated locally. On May 7, 1938 she married Carmine B. Domenicone with whom she shared 49 years prior to his passing on May 13, 1987; they shared a strong love and a devoted union. Grace was a topnotch housewife and a meticulous homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and sharing her meals with her loved ones, especially during the holidays. As a young woman, she worked at the Oneita Knitting Mills. For Grace, her family was her world and her precious grandchildren touched her heart. She appreciated being a part of their lives and following her great grandchildren’s activities and achievements. She loved to read, and in her earlier years she enjoyed crocheting. She looked forward to watching her favorite program, “Wheel of Fortune” and was delighted by the music of the “Lawrence Welk Show.” She practiced her Catholic faith at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Grace is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Marie and Richard Lambert, and Patricia DeRosa, all of Utica; her grandchildren, Jackie and Thomas Recine of Ossining, NY, Christopher and Jana Lambert of Frankfort, NY, Jeffrey and Holly Lambert, and Cheryl DeRosa, all of Utica; her great-grandchildren, Victoria Lambert, and Andrew Lambert; Casey Lambert, and Isabella Lambert; and her former son-in-law, Nicholas DeRosa. She also leaves her sister, Carmella Petrillo of FL; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and family friend Martha Gokey who offered Grace much love and care. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Rose and John Rodzinka; her brother and sister-in-law, Salvatore “Sam” and Cora Mannella; and her in-laws, Angeline D. and Frank R. DeFazio Sr., and Roger Petrillo. The family accords special acknowledgement to Dr. Guy Wilcox for his care and compassion; he always referred to Grace as an “amazing lady.” Thanks also to the entire staff of the Erie Neighborhood of the Masonic Care Community of NY for the wonderful care they rendered to Grace. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Grace’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
