Gloria C. (Chambrone) Cacozza

Mrs. Gloria C. (Chambrone) Cacozza, age 85, of Utica, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Friday, August 28, 2009. A lifelong Utica resident, Gloria was the youngest of four children born to Rocco and Marietta (Rockino) Chambrone. Raised and educated locally, she attended T. R. Proctor High School and the Utica School of Commerce. Before her marriage, Gloria worked for several local businesses including the Crane Company. In September of 1949, she married Albert F. Cacozza; the couple remained devoted and inseparable for 56 years until her husband’s death four years ago. Gloria and Al raised two sons, Mark and Albert, Jr., both working earnestly to insure that their children received college and advanced educations, and then quietly proud when both became attorneys. Gloria resumed her career working at Mohawk Valley Community College as a secretary for many years in the continuing education department, and later, in the business department, retiring in 1992 after 25 years of service. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Gloria is survived by her son, Mark and daughter-in-law Amy of Saratoga Springs, NY, and her son, Albert, Jr. and daughter-in-law Ann; and her beloved grandchildren, Nicole Cacozza, and Lucas Cacozza, all of Washington, DC. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Rachel Cacozza; her nieces and nephews, Joanne and George Amendolare, Jeanette Chambrone, Lucille "Bunny" Gottuso, and Joseph and Chris Cacozza; great-nieces and nephews, Dana and Peter DiCesare, Michelle and Scott Gorden, Tracy and Dominic Nitti, Jena Cacozza, and Joseph Cacozza III; and her special lifelong friends, Edith Poccia, Bette Coria, and Gloria Infusino. She was predeceased by her brothers and their wives, Joseph and Marie Chambrone, and Carmen S. “Sam” and Rosemary Chambrone; her sister and her husband, Anna and Onofrio “Fred” Puleo; her nephew, Robert J. Chambrone; and her in-laws, Joseph F. “Joe Black” and Bettina “Betty” Cacozza, Rose M. Cacozza, Margaret Cacozza, Angela Cacozza, Anthony Cacozza, Louis Cacozza, and Theresa Cacozza. Special thanks are extended to Amanda who for 12 years has provided wonderful care and companionship to Gloria allowing her to remain home until recently; and to her other home care providers, Linda, Tanya, Ange, Elly, Nancy, and Cheryl. The family also thanks Dr. Steven LaGrant, Dr. Emile Wassel, Dr. Yekaterina Kashtanova, and the staff of the Masonic Care Community of NY, Albany Unit, for their attentive, considerate, and compassionate care. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Gloria’s honor to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Gloria’s funeral service will commence on Wednesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
