Mrs. Gloria E. (Popeo) Daprano

Mrs. Gloria E. (Popeo) Daprano, age 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 02, 2013 at the Abraham House. Born in Utica on May 28, 1930, Gloria was the daughter of the late Donato and Maria (DeMichele) Popeo. Raised and educated locally, she attended T.R. Proctor High School. She furthered her studies at the Utica School of Commerce. On September 10, 1955 she married Louis E. Daprano with whom she shared 6 years until his untimely passing on September 29, 1961. At one time, Gloria held employment at Gorea’s Express, Inc. She lastly held a position with the Utica City School District as a teacher’s aide. A giving woman, Gloria devoted herself to her family, always providing love, care, and unwavering support. As a favorite pastime, she enjoyed cooking and baking for her loved ones, especially her delectable Italian specialties including her Christmas ricotta cookies and her ‘cassata’. Her family will always remember her zest in creating these traditional treats, especially around the holidays. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Gloria is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Gary David Daprano and his wife Pamela of Cicero, NY, and Ronald Christopher and Anne Daprano of Baldwinsville, NY; her grandchildren, Michael and Laura Daprano of Clinton, Ashley Daprano and fiancé Nathan Remick; and Nicholas Daprano, Adam Daprano, and Evan Daprano, all of Baldwinsville. She was proud to know that she would be expecting her first great-grandchild in January. She also leaves her brother, John Popeo of Utica; many nieces and nephews, including Anne Popeo, Denise Yourdon, Pat Mastrangelo, and Geraldine Barletto; great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws Ron and Judy Daprano of VA; and her friends, Rose Macrino, Josephine and Fred Kilburn; and neighbors Mr. & Mrs. Tom Powers. She was predeceased by her brothers and sister-in-law, Angelo and Mary “Marie” Popeo, and Gerald Popeo; her sisters and brother-in-law, Angeline M. Popeo, and Carmella J. and Ernaldo D. “Ray” Mastrangelo; and her sister-in-law, Josephine “Jo” Popeo. The family accords great appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, especially acknowledging the staff of 3C; thanks also to the staff of the Abraham House; and the personnel of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., for all their care and concern. The family will honor Gloria’s life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gloria's funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be directed to The Abraham House, 1203 Kemble Street, Utica, NY 13501 in lieu of floral arrangements; envelopes will be available at the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
