Geraldine "Gerry" (Farley) Aldrich Briscoe

Mrs. Geraldine “Gerry” (Farley) Aldrich Briscoe, age 83, of Unadilla, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the love and support of her family. Geraldine was born Norwich, NY on June 19, 1929, the daughter of the late Martin and Lucy (Harrington) Farley. She was raised and educated in Norwich. On August 14, 1946 she wed Richard Aldrich with whom she rejoiced in a wonderful relationship, shared in many passions and they were a grand couple during their 40 year union. Richard passed in 1987. A woman ahead of her time, Gerry worked as a General Supervisor at the Bendix Corporation in Sidney, NY. Her business insight and intuition advanced her career during an era when women in upper level corporate positions were few in number. She was endowed with a great inner strength and determination, and her children admired her ability to balance her life’s responsibilities. Gerry was blessed with a fruitful life which was complemented by a second union, when she married Alton Briscoe; as a couple, they were great companions and adventuresome travelers. Their lives were renewed through their love and beautiful memories highlighted their happiness. Alton passed away in 2009. Summertime afforded her the serenity and the many friendships that she found at her camp in Oxford, NY, where they were known to play friendly games of cards. She also found pleasure tending to her vegetable and floral gardens which bloomed brightly and bountifully under her supervision. The logic to her longevity was that she was truly an active person who, remained social and was a genuine conversationalist. Gerry is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Fred Murray of Melbourne, Florida, Sandra and Robert Hopkins of Arizona, and Linda Rae Avolio and her husband Ronald of Utica; her grandchildren, Allison and Mark Covell, Michael Murray; Casey Hopkins and Delaney Hopkins; Christopher Avolio, Dione Avolio, and Jon Avolio; and her great-grandchildren, Aiden; Blake; Joshua and Shannon. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and her canine companion, “Marble”. She was predeceased by 1 brother and 2 sisters. The family is grateful for the care and compassion of Dr. Atul Butala, and the affection and professionalism of the staff of the 6th Floor at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center.
