George C. Haddad

Mr. George C. Haddad, age 85, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on May 11, 1924, George was the son of the late Edward and Sarah (Haddad) Haddad. He was raised and educated locally. A member of the Greatest Generation and a veteran of World War II, George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. On November 12, 1950 he married the former Bertha Kasouf with whom he shared 58 years as partners in love and life. George retired from the Griffiss Air Force Base after many years of loyal and conscientious service. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Stars & Stripes #82, and the American Legion Utica Post #229. He was a parishioner of St. George’s Antiochian Orthodox Church and served many years as a church council member. George is survived by his wife, Bertha; his son and daughter-in-law, Charles G. and Theresa Haddad of N. Utica; and his granddaughter, Sarah Haddad of N. Utica. Survivors also include his sister, Anna Haddad of New Hartford; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law, Vera Kasouf of Syracuse, and Gloria Kasouf of FL. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Frieda H. and Edward L. Marron, and Rose and James A. Haddad-Tahan. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the personnel of the Utica Fire Department Rescue One for their response, and the Emergency Room staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held Monday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in George’s honor to St. George's Antiochian Orthodox Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. George’s funeral service will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. George’s Antiochian Orthodox Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
