Mr. George R. Didio

Mr. George R. Didio, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on February 8, 1920, George was the son of the late Michael and Grazia (Dispersia) Didio. He was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School in 1938. He then proudly went to service in the Army Air Corp as a Tech Sargeant for three and a half years. Upon discharge, he graduated in the first business class of Cornell University in 1948. On November 25, 1948 George married the former Marie R. Scarfo who passed earlier this year with whom he shared a cherished union of 66 years. He worked at Bendix Corporation as a Purchasing Agent for 26 years. In 1978, he established his own janitorial company, until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Historic Old St. John’s Church. George is survived by his daughters, Alice M. Barone of Marcy, Grace A. Didio of Tucson, AZ, and Carol A. Didio of Philadelphia, PA. He cherished the memory of his son-in-law, Louis W. Barone who preceded him in death. He will be remembered by his grandchildren, Peter M. and Shelly Barone, and Robert G. and Christine Barone; his great-grandchildren, Alexandria Barone, and Natalie Barone; many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, John Scarfo, Philip Scarfo, and Louise and George Pavese. George and Marie were blessed with many longtime friendships, each of whom brightened their days. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Rocco and Marie Didio, Gerald and Lena Didio, and Joseph and Mary Didio; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jennie and John Tuccillo, Rose and Frank Pagliaro, and Theresa and John “Sarge” Balandis; and his in-laws, Theresa L. and Frank L. Audino, Sr., Anthony and Florence Scarfo, Francis and Virginia Scarfo, Joseph and Harriet Scarfo, and Josephine Scarfo. The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for their kindness, comfort, compassion, and professionalism. In keeping with George’s wishes there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend George’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will be held on Monday at 10:30 at Historic Old St. John’s Church offered by Rev. John Buehler. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.; envelopes will be available at the church. Interment will take place alongside his wife in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
