Mrs. Gatha (Abounader) Moses

Mrs. Gatha (Abounader) Moses, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Martin Luther Residential Health Care Center with the love and support of her family. Born in Baskinta, Lebanon on March 28, 1929, Gatha was the daughter of the late Abraham and Helena (Dowe) Abounader. She was raised and educated in Lebanon and immigrated to the United States in 1948. On June 2, 1949 she married Louis F. Moses with whom she shared 41 years prior to his passing in May of 1991. As the matriarch of her family, Gatha gave her unconditional love to her family, children, grandchildren, and extended relatives. Gatha loved to gather her family around the table to partake of traditional Lebanese meals and savory sweets she prepared. A resourceful woman, she planted a prolific garden that produced a variety of vegetables which she canned and preserved. She was skilled in sewing, needlepoint and knitting, and enjoyed creating socks and matching sweaters and hats for friends and family. She loved the beauty of the Adirondacks and the joy of traveling with her family. Gatha was devout in her faith and was a parishioner of St. Louis Gonzaga Church as well as a member of the St. Mary’s Guild. Gatha is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and James Griswell of Martinez, GA, Diane Goodwin of San Diego, CA, Sandra Moses of New Hartford, Sharon and William Halpin of Dewitt, and Cynthia and Kevin Gadra of Skaneateles, NY; her grandchildren, Robert Cady and Dana Macumber, Jacob Griswell, Adam Gadra, Claire Gadra, Emily Halpin, and Jacqueline Halpin; and her great-grandchildren, Joey, Eric, and Samantha Cady. She will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and her dear sister-in-law, Marie Abounader of Tonawanda. She was predeceased by her siblings, Sassin and Marie Abounader, Jacob and Jenny Abounader, Francis, Caesar, Tanios Abounader, Elias and Lila Abounader, Rachel and Elias Abounader. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff of the Martin Luther Residential Health Care Center, especially the Applewood Unit, for all the care and attention rendered to Gatha during her stay. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gatha’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday morning at 11:00 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church where her Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Rev. Elias Khalil. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. In lieu of floral offerings, donations in Gatha’s name may be considered to St. Louis Gonzaga Church; envelopes will be available at the service. Interment will follow graveside in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
