Gary T. Conte

Mr. Gary T. Conte, age 60, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on February 27, 1953, Gary was the son of Rocco Conte and the late Rose (Haddad) Tahan. He was also beloved by his step-father, the late James A. Tahan; and his step-mother, Ruth Conte, who is wed to his father, Rocco. Raised and educated in Utica, Gary was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. He furthered his studies at MVCC receiving an Associates degree in Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology and an Associates degree in Occupational Studies in Air Conditioning Technology. On October 31, 1971, he was joined in marriage with the former Bonnie Harwell. Gary, along with his wife, was the owner and operator of the OK Corral Restaurant in Remsen, up until his retirement. Gary was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and a supporter of the NY Lottery. He also enjoyed occasional trips to the Turning Stone Casino. Gary cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and friends either in person or by the computer. His dog Chester was his constant companion for the past two years. Gary is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Amy Conte of Utica; his daughters, Michelle L. Conte of Utica, and Christine M. Conte and fiancé Matt Nodecker of Frankfort; his father and step-mother, Rocco and Ruth Conte of Florida; and his grandchildren, Andrew Scott Conte “The Boy” and his mother Denise Dineen; Kaitlynn Conte “Squirrel”, Rachel Fuller, and Alyssa Clayton. His untimely passing will also be mourned by his twin sister and her husband, Gail A. and Kenneth F. Wolfran of Utica; and his sisters and brother-in-law, Lynda Atkins of New York City, and Denise and Craig Gymburch of Rome; and his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Robert A. Jr. and Mary Harwell of FL; and many special friends. The family is grateful to the physicians, nurses, and staff at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their compassion and vigilance in caring for Gary. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Final prayers will be offered at the conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
