Mr. Gary A. Casaletta, Sr.

UTICA - Mr. Gary A. Casaletta, Sr., age 66, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on March 4, 1952, Gary was the son of the late Rufus, Sr. and Caroline (Cittadino) Casaletta. He was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1970. On July 20, 1974 he married the former Lorraine “Lorrie” Maggiore with whom he shared a beloved relationship of 21 years prior to her passing on September 10, 1995. Gary was blessed with a second union when he wed Donna Milazzo on January 14, 2008. Their marriage was happy and harmonious, and their relationship was based on respect for one another. Gary was a dependable person and a hard worker. He had a vast array of abilities and talents, and his most memorable jobs were at the Reich Supply Company and the Municipal Housing Authority (MHA) where he worked in security, the position from which he retired. Gary was blessed with a remarkable sense of humor and it would be futile to resist laughing when he spun a tale or told a joke. This amazing ability remained with Gary to the very end. He had a caring heart, especially when it came to his family and friends. He was also a loyal guy and a man of his word and he stood by his beliefs. Gary’s home was a comfort to him and he kept busy around the house making sure things were in order. He was an intuitive, imaginative cook and was proud of the fact that he worked at several legendary restaurants. He was a “fish-on-Friday” fan and honored his Italian tradition of macaroni on Sundays and Wednesdays. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and an occasional trip to the casino. Prior to his lifestyle change, he pursued golf, fishing, boating, and snowmobiling. In the face of adversity, Gary rarely complained. He made the best of his time and was grateful for each day. Gary is survived by his wife, Donna; his son Gary Casaletta Jr; step-children, Robert “Bobby” and Jamie Springer, Eric and Ashley Springer, and their children; his grandson, Tyler; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Theresa and Michael DiNigro; and his brother, George A. Casaletta and Roberta Marrone. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rufus “Rufie” Casaletta, Jr. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, including Domenica DiNigro, Maria DiNigro, George A. Casaletta, and Rufie Casaletta III; cousins, aunts, Carmelita and John Poccia, and Claire Casaletta; mother-in-law, Patricia Milazzo; and a special brother in-law, Ken Milazzo who dedicated himself to caring for Gary in such a kind and watchful manner, his goodness will never be forgotten; and the many friends who filled his life. The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Sultana Razia and Physician Assistant Tim for their medical treatment and expertise. In his final days, Gary was graced by the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care at his side. The greatest blessing was the professional and outstanding commitment of his brother-in-law, Ken Milazzo/LPN, who made every day easier by his gentle care. He helped ease the burden from Gary and Donna who were grateful for each day of Ken’s kindness… and Gary liked him! The family will honor and commemorate Gary’s life at a private time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gary’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. John Buehler. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
