Mr. Fred J. Grimaldi Jr.

Mr. Fred J. Grimaldi, Jr., age 80, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 1, 2012 in the privacy of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on February 8, 1932, Fred was the son of the late Fred J., Sr. and Angeline (Pugliese) Grimaldi. He was raised and educated locally, attending Proctor High School. On August 23, 1952 he married the former Marie Ferrese, and they were proud to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this August. Fred and Marie centered their love upon one another and their family, and Fred’s whole life was dedicated to their happiness and comfort. Fred was employed by the Utica City School District for over 20 years. He retired from his position as an Athletic Grounds Caretaker in 1993. Fred was blessed with a natural athletic ability which allowed him to excel at various sports. From 1952 he played fastpitch softball for several local teams, all while engraining in his sons an appreciation for sports. Fred took a special interest in coaching his sons and grandchildren in their baseball endeavors, along with many local youth that he inspired. In his earlier years, he enjoyed woodworking, handcrafting many memorable pieces for his grandchildren. Fred will be remembered as an all-around family man who appreciated friendships and loved people. Fred is survived by his wife Marie; his sons and daughters-in-law, Fred J., III and Jill Grimaldi of Frankfort, David and Lori Grimaldi of Utica, Richard J., Sr. and Roxanne Grimaldi of Sauquoit, and Frank T. Grimaldi, Sr. of Marcy; and his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “their Poppie”, Amanda and Alyssa Grimaldi-Bouthillier, Corinda Grimaldi and fiancé Glenn Cox, Joie Alaina Grimaldi, Ashley, and Alyssa Grimaldi, Richard Jr., and Michael Grimaldi; Frank Jr., Francesca, and Matthew Grimaldi, and their mother, Karen Grimaldi. He also leaves his sister, Theresa Viti; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Joanne Grimaldi, Carmen and JoAnn Grimaldi, and Dennis and Carolyn Grimaldi; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, especially acknowledging Al Grimaldi, and his in-laws, Jeanne and Thomas Zdanowicz, Kathleen and Charles Osborn, Frank Percacciante, and Thomas and Donna Ferrese. He was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Rose Ferrese; and his in-laws, Dominick A. Viti, Jr., and Rosemarie Percacciante. The family is grateful to all the Emergency Responders who assisted them at the time of Fred’s passing. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Fred’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery. We could always find Dad or Pop in his favorite chair watching the Yankees or the Giants. His family will always affectionately remember him calling out to his beloved wife... “Marie!”
