Mr. Fred Louis Farewege

UTICA - Mr. Fred Louis Farewege, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in Utica on May 18, 1933, Fred was the son of the late Albert and Rose (Thomas) Farewege. He was raised and educated in local schools. Fred was a licensed barber in Florida and New York and operated his own barber shop in Utica for many years. He was also affiliated with the VA locally and in Rochester, as a barber for veterans, and was a member of the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC) and the Knights of Columbus. He especially looked forward to summertime and trips to his family’s camp at Verona Beach, where he enjoyed time with his family in a peaceful setting with many memories of his childhood. Fred was a parishioner of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. He is survived by his sister, Gladys Farewege; and his sister-in-law Jeanette Farewege; his nieces and nephews, Rose and Larry Pawlinga, Louise and Michael Fultz, Peter and Hana Farewege, Rose Farewege, and Albert Farewege, Danyse and Ralph Fusco, Michael and Heidi Chanatry, Edward and Marie Chanatry, Rosanne and BJ Fallon, Mary Louise and Greg Boyer, John and Patti Chanatry; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters and brother-in-law, Mary and Edward Chanatry, and Catherine Farewege; and his brothers and sister-in-law, Peter Farewege and John and Phyllis Farewege. Also predeceased was a family friend and mentor, Blaine Fitzpatrick. The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Fred Talarico and his staff and the Utica Rehabilitation Center for the exceptional care and kindness rendered to Fred. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Fred’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Monday morning at 10:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Joseph Salerno. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
