Frank A. Sbiroli, Sr.

Mr. Frank A. Sbiroli, Sr., age 77, of Utica, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on October 10, 1931, Frank was the son of the late Leo and Nancy “Nellie” (Pepe) Sbiroli. He was raised and educated locally. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Frank honorably served his country in the U. S. Army. On June 11, 1955 in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church he married the former Dolores Caporale with whom he shared 53 years in a blessed union. Frank worked as a meat cutter at Acme Market for many years, and subsequently took a position at Price Chopper Supermarket as a stock clerk, retiring in the late 1990’s. Frank was a loving individual who provided much love and dedication to his family and friends. Although quiet by nature, he possessed a great sense of humor, and the blessing of his grandchildren brought much joy to his life. He loved to bring his family to the beach during the summer months, and he enjoyed walking wherever he may have ventured, including rugged terrain to hunt deer. He was a member of the Fort Schuyler Post #1290, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Frank is survived by his wife, Dolores; his daughters and son-in-law, Linda Sbiroli and her companion Daniel Pace, and Sandra and Mark Colosimo, all of Utica; his sons and daughters-in-law, Frank, Jr. and Yvette Sbiroli of N. Utica, Daniel J. Sbiroli, and Gary and Michele Sbiroli, all of Utica; his grandchildren, Michael P. Sbiroli, Amanda Sbiroli and Larry Gregory, DeAnna Sbiroli, Caitlin Sbiroli, Jessica Sbiroli, Alison Sbiroli, and Daniel F. Sbiroli; and his great-grandchildren, Cody and Brennan Gregory. Survivors also include his sister, Theresa Schreck of Sauquoit; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Mary Ann Sbiroli, Alphonse P. “Chubby” Caporale, Pauline Wohlrab and Yetta Massi. He was predeceased by his sister, Ann M. Sbiroli; his brothers, Leonard D. Sbiroli, and Carmen Sbiroli; his in-laws, John Schreck, Sr., Joan A. Caporale, and Gerald Wohlrab, Sr.; and his nephew, Gerald Wohlrab, Jr. The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Arul Kannan, the nurses and staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, the Faxton-St. Luke’s Radiation staff, for their professionalism and compassion, and his son-in-law, Mark Colosimo, for all his care and attention to his father-in-law. Visitation will be held Thursday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Members of the Fort Schuyler Post #1290 will gather at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. for ritualistic services. Frank’s funeral service will commence on Friday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
