Mr. Frank T. Benvenga

UTICA - Mr. Frank T. Benvenga, age 90, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in Sassano, Italy on December 5, 1926, Frank was the son of the late Michael and Teresa (Esposito) Benvenga. As a young boy, he relocated to the United States settling in Brooklyn where he received his education. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Frank honorably served his country from 1944-1946. On September 13, 1952 he married the former Marie R. DiStaola with whom he shared nearly 60 years in a life filled with a lot of love, respect, and many fond occasions. Frank worked as a licensed Professional Engineer at Griffiss Air Force Base/Rome Air Development Center and was proud of his many awards and project accomplishments. More recently, he was employed by Riverside Research. A dedicated and caring family man, Frank provided for his family and left them with beautiful, loving memories. In earlier years, he enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling, and tinkering with electronics. He was a collector of tools and coins. He maintained his mental acuity by reading and solving crossword puzzles. Frank was also a dedicated volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital, a humbling venture that brought him fulfillment. He was a member of the American Legion, D.A.V., and the NY Mills Senior Center. He practiced his Catholic faith as a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Frank is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane C. and David A. Rodrigues of Dutchess County; his son and daughter-in-law, Frank Thomas, Jr. and Michelle Benvenga of MD; his grandchildren, Jason and Cindy Nash of New Hartford, Jeremy and Kelly Nash of Marcy; and Jill Benvenga and fiance Eduardo Delgado of MD; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Julia Faye, Jason Jr., Jacob Douglas, and Joseph Daniel. He also leaves his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, especially acknowledging Mary Jean and Stanley Boris; his brother-in-law, Leonard Sica; and friends, Betty and Harry Turner. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Those wishing to express an act of kindness may make a donation to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Frank’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta with Military Honors conferred by the U.S. Navy. Entombment will take place in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
