Francis J. "Buddy" Bonadio

Mr. Francis J. “Buddy” Bonadio, of Utica, and currently a resident of the Heritage Health Care Center, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2007, at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center after a courageous struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Utica on October 2, 1928, Buddy was the son of the late Frank A. and Rose M. (Montesano) Bonadio. Raised and educated locally, he attended Brandegee Elementary School and was a graduate of T. R. Proctor High School. As a veteran, he was proud of the time he served with the U.S. Army, stationed in both Italy and the Bahamas. A memorable moment during Buddy’s enlistment occurred when he met Sophia Loren during a U.S.O. show. Always patriotic and humanitarian, he valued his affiliations with the Disabled American Veterans Stars & Stripes #82, and the American Legion / Fort Schuyler Post. He was a proud member for over 50 years of the National Disabled American Veterans, and prized his involvement with the annual Veterans’ Day Parades. At one time, Buddy held the position of security personnel with Griffiss Air Force Base. A quiet and unassuming man, he had a positive attitude, and was always helpful to his relatives, especially his mother and aunts. For leisure entertainment, he had a passion and great calculation for different games of chance, and was a devoted NY Yankees fan. He was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where he served as an usher for over 15 years. Buddy is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert A. and Clare Bonadio of Murrieta, CA. Always close to his heart was the memory of his sister, Rosemarie Bonadio, who passed away on November 17, 1986. Also surviving are his nieces, Jeanette Rose Bonadio, and Karen Lee Bonadio, both of CA; his aunts and uncle, Josephine Paladino, and Rocco and Vicky Montesano; and his cousins, Robert and Dorothy Montesano, William S. and Marilyn Montesano, Rocco, Jr. and Jan Montesano, Nicholas and Kathy Montesano, Mary Ellen and Francis McDonough, Dr. Pat and Shara Montesano, Yvonne and Nick Mancini, Betty Lou and John Kessler, and George and Evelyn Bonadio. He was predeceased by his uncle and aunt, Dr. Pasquale and Marie Montesano. The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Mathew Ulahannan, Buddy’s longtime physician, for his kindness and concern. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The family graciously accepts floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Buddy’s honor to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc.; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Buddy’s funeral will commence on Saturday at 11:00 from the funeral home and at 12:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Military Honors. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
