Francis "Frank" Klar, Sr.

Mr. Francis “Frank” Klar, Sr., age 69, of Utica, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2008 in the comfort of his home. Born in Cohoes, NY on January 9, 1939, Francis was the son of the late Francis and Margaret (Bowler) Klar. He was raised and educated in Cohoes. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force stationed in Germany and stateside. On October 22, 1960 he married the former LouAnn Caruso with whom he shared a loving and blessed union of 47 years. Frank was employed by Univac as a supervisor in the welding department until its closing. He later took a position with the Utica City School District where he worked as a boilerman, retiring after 25 years of service. Frank was a hard-working man whose life took meaning from his family, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life. Always thinking of others, he put their needs before his own. He was a Mr. Fix-it, and loved to tinker with anything mechanical. He enjoyed bowling for the Mt. Carmel League and coaching their baseball team. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and in his spare time he played pinochle, and found pleasure in fishing and camping in the Adirondacks. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church. Frank is survived by his wife, LouAnn; his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Paul Bottini of Utica; his sons and daughter-in-law, Francis “Frank” Klar, Jr., Louis “Louie” Klar, both of Utica, and John and Debbie Klar of Rome; his grandchildren, Paul, Kara, Krystyna, and Stephen Bottini, and Jonathan Klar, and the expected arrival of his future grandchild that brought much joy to Frank; and his great-grandchildren, Eddie, Angelo, and Annalicia. Survivors also include his sisters and brother-in-law, Norrine Trudeau, Anna and Jack Dingley, Mary King, and Karen Klar, all of Cohoes; his brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Kathy Klar of Cohoes, and Pat and Lea Kenton of Ocala, FL; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, with special mention of Charlene and Don Widrick, brother-in-law, Thomas Caruso of Utica, and friend Angie Ficchi and her family. He was predeceased by his brother, Eddie Kenton; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Joe Thibedeau, and Patricia and Ed Walsh; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis T. and Helen Caruso; his brother-in-law, Joe Trudeau; and his best friend, Louis Ficchi. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. and the staff of the Heritage Healthcare Center 2West for all the care and attention shown to Frank and his family. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Frank’s funeral service will commence on Thursday at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Military Honors. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
