Mrs. Frances A. (Cecere) Oliva

Mrs. Frances A. (Cecere) Oliva, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Masonic Care Community of NY. Her passing occurred on the anniversary of both her mom’s and her sister’s passing. Born in Utica on June 22, 1919, Frances was the daughter of the late Angelo and Anna (Agrusti) Cecere. Raised and educated locally, she attended T.R. Proctor High School. On January 24, 1942, she married Sam L. Oliva. The two were inseparable and shared a loving and devoted union of 65 years, up until his passing on May 3, 2007. At one time, Frances held a position with the Oneita Knitting Mills. She also enjoyed working at the Dixie Hat Shop, and later at Cramer’s Half Size Shop as a sales representative, the position from which she retired. Frances was faithfully committed to her family and loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was always available to offer her loving support when it was needed. She was an excellent cook and baker, especially making homemade pasta and Italian pusties. She was also a skilled seamstress and enjoyed teaching women the craft of sewing at evening classes. Frances was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church and a member of the parish Altar Rosary Society. Frances is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Sal DeTraglia of Naperville, IL, and Karen and Scott Lowell of Deerfield; her son and daughter-in-law, Samuel and Patricia Oliva of Lebanon, TN; her 8 grandchildren and their spouses; her 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank V. Cecere, and Joseph A. Cecere; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Molly and Joseph Montana, Josephine and Walter Salerno, and Mary and Angelo Popeo. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Frances’ nieces, Anne Popeo, and Denise Yourdon for their loving care and compassion; her son-in-law, Scott, for his constant devotion to Frances; and the staff of the Masonic Care Community of NY, especially acknowledging Joanne, Dorothy, Natasha, and Mirella of the Manhattan Household for their compassion and sensitivity in caring for Frances during her stay; the family also wishes to acknowledge her lifelong friend Marlene Bogner for her many visits and loving heart. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday morning at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church with Rev. Mark A. Kaminski officiating. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
