Mrs. Frances M. (Melone) Basile

Mrs. Frances M. (Melone) Basile, age 96, of Deerfield, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Rome, NY on April 5, 1919, Frances was the daughter of the late Ercole and Giuseppina Melone. She was raised and educated in Rome. On February 15, 1941 she married Victor E. Basile, Sr. with whom she shared a union of love and commitment for nearly 50 years until his passing on January 10, 1991. A gifted cook, Frances held employment as a chef at Griffiss Air Force Base most notably at the Silver Wing Restaurant. But her most rewarding work was at home where she was a loving matriarch. She was selfless, humble and happiest when she was in the presence of her loved ones. Among her hobbies, Frances loved flowers and enjoyed her time in the garden where she planted and tended to the beautiful blooms with her green thumb. She maintained a lifelong motivation for reading all types of written material for information, entertainment, and knowledge. She had a knack and expertise for solving crossword puzzles, and games of chance thrilled her, especially Bingo, and trips to the casino. She was an enthusiastic NY Yankees fan. Frances practiced her Catholic faith as a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Frances is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Richard F.“Dick” and Diana Basile of Deerfield with whom she resided; and Victor E. Basile, Jr.; her grandchildren, Victor and Kelly Basile of Sarasota FL, David and Janet Basile of Saco ME, and Patrick and Dawn Basile of Endicott; her great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Basile; Matthew Basile, Michael Basile; Anthony Basile, and Chloe Basile; and her 4 great-great-grandchildren. Her extended family includes her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, sister-in-law, Natalie Basile; and her special friends, Roz Lee of New Hartford, and Diane Guyder of Sarasota. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Angelo and Ada Melone, and Charles and Carrie Melone; and her sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Anthony Mitchell. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5:00-8:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of the Hammond Ave. Frances’ funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 11:30 from the funeral home and at 12:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Interment will follow graveside in Calvary Cemetery.
