Frances (Carzo) Gdowski

Mrs. Frances (Carzo) Gdowski, age 89, of Irvine, CA, and formerly of Utica, passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in California. Born in Utica on July 4, 1920, Frances was the daughter of the late Rocco and Carmella (Tripepi) Carzo. She was raised and educated locally. On November 27, 1948 she married Michael Gdowski; throughout their 60 year union they were blessed with great happiness and shared a mutual devotion. For Frances, raising her two daughters and caring for her home was the focus of her life, and her strength of character and profound love were evident in the relationships she shared with them. Gifted with creativity and an intelligent mind, she made her house a home, and decorated it with her handiworks; as a skilled seamstress and designer, she also made beautiful clothing. She was a seasoned cook, and prepared many delectable dishes for her family. She was a gifted landscaping artist and enjoyed gardening. Frances is survived by her husband, Michael; her daughters and son-in-law, Diana Gdowski of Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA, and Sandra G. and Udo “Buzz” Schulz of Palm Desert, CA. Survivors also include her sister, Congetta Calo of Liverpool, and her brother and sister-in-law, Rocco J. and Sandra Carzo of Utica; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Helen Davis of San Diego, CA. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dominick Carzo, Joseph and Helen Carzo, and Frank and Helen Carzo; her sister and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Joseph LaPaglia, and Alexander Calo; and her nephew, Rocco Carzo. There will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Frances’ funeral service which will commence on Thursday morning at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
