Mr. Floyd Ezekiel Stubbs, Sr.

UTICA – Mr. Floyd Ezekiel Stubbs, Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at the Siegenthaler Center in New Hartford. Floyd was born in Utica, N.Y. on April 27, 1941, to the late Berry and Mamie (Collins) Stubbs. He was preceded in death by brothers Howard, Robert, Herman, Charles, and Barry. Floyd was a 1959 graduate of Utica Free Academy High School. After graduating from high school, Floyd found employment at Sam Wynn’s Upholstery Shop. Upon the passing of Mr. Wynn, Floyd purchased the business and rebranded it as Zeke’s Upholstery. During this time, he boasted contracts with the likes of the U.S. Postal Service, Utica Police Department, local boating companies, and patrons. Additionally, he found employment with the N.Y. Central Railroad System, Bell Telephone Company, and Western Electric. He was a man of many talents, who expertly wore many hats. In 1959, Floyd married his love, Shirley Ann Carter. As a result of this union, they have five children. Later in life, he bonded with Eleanor Grace Johnson, and three children came from their relationship. In addition, and later in life, he shared a bond with Patricia “Patty” Lazore, and two children came from their relationship. Floyd loved spending his time being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing at Locks 19 and 20 in Utica. He also loved drag racing and felt at home at the Utica-Rome Speedway. He enjoyed exercising especially riding his bike. Floyd also enjoyed spending time at the local OTBs. He loved the horses and the excitement that came from the races at Vernon Downs. Floyd loved traveling the open road especially when he could stop and visit family along the way. He loved watching television shows, such as Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Wild Kingdom. Floyd will be remembered as a knowledgeable man and Father. He shared his knowledge, wisdom, and expertise with his children, and those who cared to listen. He was known to be straightforward with his words. He did all of this in the spirit of love. Floyd is survived by his children, Floyd Stubbs Jr., Yvonne Stubbs, Cyril (Aisha) Stubbs Sr., Cedric (DeChanta) Stubbs, Sr., Darren (Kimberly) Stubbs, Sr., Phaedra (Sean) Hagan, Abby Stubbs, Christy (Kellic) Terrell, Corey (Hazel) Stubbs, Sr., Allison Stubbs; step-daughters, Yolanda Whiting, and Kayla Lazore; loving sisters, Jacqueline (Paul) Harris, Naydean Stubbs (Clarence Dunham); a loving brother, Walter Stubbs, Sr.; a host of cousins (special thanks to cousins Joseph “Brother” Yarbrough and Berthenia Gill); a special friend, Ms. Carrie Heyward and family; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank the primary care team of Dr. Scott Brehaut, and Dr. Atul Butala, and their staff of the sixth floor at MVHS at St. Luke’s Campus, the Pines of Utica, and Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. at the Siegenthaler Center. These individuals and services were instrumental while providing Floyd exceptional care. Visitation and a Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will be conducted on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, between 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., located at 932, South St., and the corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings.
