Mrs. Florence (Rolchigo) Creaco-Gentile

UTICA - Mrs. Florence (Rolchigo) Creaco-Gentile, age 93, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at MVHS at St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Frankfort, NY on September 8, 1925, Florence was the daughter of the late Philip and Marianne (Tocco) Rolchigo. She was raised and educated in Frankfort schools. On April 29, 1978, she married Albert C. Gentile with whom she shared 20 years in a loving relationship prior to his passing on March 17, 1999. They were the best of companions. Florence was a graduate of the Utica Beauty Culture School and upon earning her License as a New York State Beautician, she began working out of her home. At one time, she lived in Sacramento, California until returning to her home in Utica to be closer to her family. Gracious and entertaining, she was delighted to cook up favorite dishes for her loved ones. She was blessed with many good friends during her life, and along with her sisters, enjoyed the excitement of slots and friendly games of scat. They looked forward to socializing, especially Saturday nights with their husbands, and Thursdays for “girls’ night out”. Florence was engrained in her Catholic creed, and she prayed daily for her loved ones and for the strength to get through each day with grace. She lived a good Christian life and was selfless in action and deed. Many of those good deeds came to light at a later time. Florence held close to her heart the memory of her son, Christopher Peter Creaco who passed away on November 9, 2013. She is survived by her brother, Carl Rolchigo; her nieces, especially acknowledging Joann DiCamillo, whom she loved as a daughter, Barbara Miller, and Elizabeth DiCamillo; nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, members of the Gentile family, especially Phyllis Gentile and her daughters Lisa and Dana; best girlfriend Rose Gross; neighbors Nerija and Alvin Tricic who were wonderful; and other caring friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Philip, Vito, James, Joseph, and Steve; sisters, Mamie Luggerio Scaparo, Mary DiCamillo, and Frances Gifford; nephew, James DiCamillo; and niece Maryann Balaska. The family extends appreciation to Dr. Mathew Ulahannan for his vigilance in watching over Florence for many years. She had great faith in him personally and professionally. The family will honor and commemorate Florence’s life at a private time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Florence’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Monday afternoon at 1:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. John Buehler. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. In lieu of floral offerings, donations in Florences’ memory may be made to Historic Old St. John’s food pantry; envelopes will be available at the service.
