Evelyn F. (Duffy) DiAndrea

Mrs. Evelyn F. (Duffy) DiAndrea, age 89, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the Presbyterian Home for Central New York. At the time of her passing, she was in the presence of her devoted family. Born in Utica on March 26, 1917, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Michael and Bridget (Ryan) Duffy. She was raised and educated locally attending Utica Catholic Academy. On June 16, 1941 she married Anthony DiAndrea. Just a few weeks ago, Evelyn and Anthony celebrated the 65th anniversary of their union, one which has been characterized by their deeply devoted and loving relationship. They were truly an exemplary team and excellent role models. At one time Mrs. DiAndrea worked in the Hosiery Dept. of the Boston Store where her assistance and excellent service to the store’s clientele was appreciated. Evelyn was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Because her love and commitment revolved around her loved ones, her family was the source of her greatest joy in life and the center of her circle. She loved to share her hospitality with her family and her siblings whether they were enjoying a cup of afternoon coffee together or for one of her marvelous dinners or her “famous apple pie.” As a woman of quiet and steadfast faith, Evelyn frequently attended novenas at her home parish, Blessed Sacrament Church. She is currently a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Mrs. DiAndrea is survived by her devoted husband, Anthony; a daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Hank Scarafile of Liverpool NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph M. and Shirley DiAndrea of Utica; her cherished grandchildren, Deborah and Patrick Hitchcock of Oriskany NY, Michael and Srebiana DiAndrea of Grand Island NY, Darlene and Joseph Basi of Tampa FL, and Christopher Scarafile of Brooklyn NY; and her 5 beloved great-grandchildren, Zachary and Allison; Joseph, Samantha, and Salvatore. Evelyn is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, and cousins; her in-laws, Theresa Martelli of Utica, and Louis J. DiAndrea of Oriskany; and her dear friend, Mary Jane Faga of Latham NY. She was predeceased by 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine and Fred Nail, and Mary and Victor “Jack” Pacciarelli; and her in-laws, Dominick and Cora Coluccio, Raymond F. Martelli, and Laura and Frank Porter. Evelyn’s children extend a special and loving thank-you to their father for the excellent care, respect, and steadfast love which he provided as he attended her at home prior to her residency at the Presbyterian Home of CNY. In addition, they offer their deepest gratitude to the staff of the home, especially the personnel of the Elm Unit, for tending Evelyn with such kind care, and for them with the comfort and peace of mind that she was in professional hands. Thanks also to Dr. Brehaut for his care and competence, and to Father Bob Kelly for his friendship, for his spiritual guidance, and for the wonderful camaraderie he and Evelyn enjoyed, especially because of their shared Irish heritage. Visitation will be held tomorrow morning (Wednesday) from 9:30-10:30 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Evelyn’s name to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mrs. DiAndrea’s funeral will commence tomorrow morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 from St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish at Mt. Carmel Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
