Mr. Eugene P. DelMonte

UTICA/CAPE CORAL, FL - Mr. Eugene P. DelMonte, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Florida after a brief illness. Born in Utica on June 4, 1926, Eugene was the son of the late John and Margaret DelMonte. He was raised and educated in Utica. Eugene was a two-year World War II Veteran, along with becoming a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus member. On June 4, 1949 he married the former Potenza Convertino with whom he shared 53 years prior to her passing on June 24, 2002. Eugene was a business partner of DelMonte-Bremiller from 1970 – 1982, after which he joined his son, John, in business, E. DelMonte & Son from 1983-1996. He spent his retirement years enjoying the winters in Florida and summers in New York. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Hughes, and Margaret Rose and her husband John Macauley; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Chris DelMonte. He also leaves his special friend, Theresa Cuda, as well as his eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Lavinia and Nick Russo; sisters-in-law, RoseMary DelMonte, and Nancy and John Potenza, brothers-in-law, Joe Borruso, Bob Leach, and Frank Convertino; son-in-law, John Hughes; and niece, Denise D’Agostino. The family would like to thank Dr. Giuseppe Guaitoli, Dr. Krystine Swannick, Dr. Curtis Dedrick, and Dr. David Wilkinson, as well as the dedicated staff of the ICU at Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers, Florida, for their support, care, and attention given throughout Eugene's illness. The family commemorated Eugene’s life in a private gathering. Eugene’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday morning at 11:00 at St. John the Evangelsit Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Kevin Bunger with Military Honors conferred. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
