Mr. Eugene J. "Gene" Carbone

Mr. Eugene J. “Gene” Carbone, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 in Florida. Born in Utica on November 16, 1946, he was the son of the late Joseph D. and Jean (Getz) Carbone. He was also blessed with the love and guidance of his step-father, Walter Sypek. Raised and educated locally, Gene was affectionately known by his nickname, “Uggi”. At one time, he was wed to the late Pamela Magaviesko who passed away on October 23, 2002. He was later blessed with the love and companionship of Franny Hatfield with whom he shared many years. In the past, Gene worked as a barber at the Griffiss Air Force Base. While residing in Florida, he owned and operated Franny’s Deli & Service Station. Gene was a very giving and generous man with a loving heart. He treasured the time shared with his grandchildren, especially summertime swimming in the pool. Gene liked the outdoors and had a fondness for animals. During his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing and playing cards with his buddies. Gene is survived by his companion, Franny Hatfield of Florida; his daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Robert Michael, and Suzanne and Mickey Shephard, all of FL. He cherished the memory of his beloved daughter, Deanne Smith, who passed away in August of 2013. He also leaves his son-in-law, David Smith, and his beloved grandchildren. He shared a paternal love for Franny’s children, Dawn, Carl, the late Nick, and their families. His extended family includes his sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara A. and Thomas W. Sayles of N. Utica, and Lynda Sypek of Cassville; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Judith Carbone, and James and Marcia Carbone, all of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and his North Utica buddies. He will be missed by his canine, Charlie, and his feline friends, Bag Lady and Tom. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Eugene’s Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave.
