Mrs. Esther C. (Austin) Madia

Mrs. Esther C. (Austin) Madia, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2015 in the comfort and dignity of her home with her loving daughters by her side. Born in Utica on November 25, 1926, Esther was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Angelina (Belanger) Austin. On August 20, 1949, she married Thomas J. Madia; he passed away on October 23, 1997. During her working life, Esther was employed by the New York Telephone Company as a telephone operator. Esther was a kind, nurturing woman whose motherly ways have been imparted to each of her children. Her most important priority and focus was to be a dedicated mom, a source of wisdom, and knew that her teachings were guided by truth. She was favored with a strong faith which sustained her during life’s struggles. Every day, she viewed the Roman Catholic Mass that was broadcast on the Eternal World Television Network. Esther's family would like to express their gratitude to the Utica Fire Department who graciously assisted them during numerous emergency situations. Also a special thank you to the staff at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their kindness and compassion; and heartfelt thanks to Cheryl, Irene, and Ann, the very special nurses at Hospice for their compassion, kindness and gentle caring. They are truly special angels from heaven who helped us and went above and beyond in our time of greatest need. Esther is survived by her children, Donna Davies of Yorkville, Thomas “Tom” and Linda Madia of New Hartford, Colleen Madia with whom she shared a home, and Alan Madia, and Charles Madia, both of Florida; her grandchildren, Bradley and Amy Davies, Phillip Davies and fiancée Karnjana Piayai, Amanda and Nicholas Slover; Kelly Madia, Kristien and Dan DelFerraro; Brandon Madia, and Dana Madia; and her 8 great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her sister, Lorraine Armitage; her brother, Charles Austin; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers and sister-in-law, Ephram Austin, Donald Austin, Lawrence Austin, and Harold and Helen Austin; her sisters and brother-in-law, Camille Brennan, Joan Goodman, Eileen Austin, Edna and Clifford Brown; and her brother-in-law, Robert Armitage. The family will honor and commemorate Esther’s life at a private time.
