Elizabeth M. "Betty" (Orsaio) Yozzo

Mrs. Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Orsaio) Yozzo, age 93, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 which was the same date that her husband had passed away in 1965. It was with the love and support of her family by her side that she went home to be with the Lord. Born in Utica on September 24, 1920, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Peter and Angeline (Rasile) Orsaio. She was raised and educated locally. In 1938 she married Fred J. Yozzo with whom she shared 27 years; Fred held Betty in high regard for her many venerable attributes, and they loved each other with a resolve that carried them through some difficult years. Fred’s untimely passing occurred on November 22, 1965. During her working years, Betty was employed as an assembler at the General Electric Company/Bleecker Street location. She held a number of ancillary positions including crossing guard for the Utica City School District stationed at Albany Street School, licensed beautician working at several local beauty salons, and lastly, receptionist at the Utica Transit Authority during her retirement years. Betty was a giving person who always looked after those she loved. A passionate baker and traditional cook, her mission was to have her homemade goodies available for all to enjoy. She maintained an open door and generations of family partook at her table. The holidays were meaningful and sacred to her, especially the sanctity of Christmas Eve. She found enjoyment in shopping for apparel and groceries. Betty was a trustworthy woman of simple and humble means who found happiness in giving to her family. As a young widow, she provided for her children and in her later years, her children reciprocated by tending to her every need with love and respect. She looked forward to her weekly friendly card games with her girlfriends, Rosie, Fanny, Gloria, Marie, Tina, and the late Delores. Betty also enjoyed trips to the Casino for entertainment and dinner. Betty is survived by her daughter, Joanne Czerw of Utica; her sons and daughters-in-law, Fredrick J. Yozzo, Jr. of Utica and SC, Michael A. and Lorraine J. Yozzo of Baldwinsville, (twin sons) Richard Yozzo and Penny, and Ron Yozzo, and Mark Yozzo and Marie Fraccola; and her son-in-law, Michael Didio. Close to her heart were the memories of her daughter, Marie Didio; her son-in-law, Joseph P. Czerw; and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl L. Yozzo, all of whom preceded her in death. She also leaves her legacy to her grandchildren, Sheri and Anthony Giannandrea, Joseph and Rebecca Czerw, Jon Andrews; Kristine Farley, Frederick III and Julie Yozzo, Jodi and Raymond Tantillo, Rich Yozzo Jr., Joshua Yozzo; Joelle Didio, and Jamie and Al Kamauf. Her heart was deeply saddened by the death of her granddaughter, Shelly Ann Andrews, who passed away in 2011. She also leaves her 15 great-grandchildren and the anticipation of her 16th great-grandchild; her brothers and sister-in-law, John and Mary Orsaio, and Anthony J. Orsaio, Sr., all of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws Louise Yozzo and Gino. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Sally Orsaio; her brother Tony at age 5; her sister, Albina at age 12; her sister-in-law, Patricia Orsaio; and her many in-laws of the Yozzo family. The family is grateful to Dr. Bhisham Garg for his humanitarian efforts; and the staff at The Pines at Utica whose affection, kindness, and care were uplifting to Betty. During the last 2 months, Betty’s care was enhanced by the excellent commitment of the personnel of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. who were so accommodating and of great comfort. Thanks also to Fr. Mark Kaminski for his blessings and prayers. The Yozzo family will honor their beloved Betty in an intimate and private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Betty’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. By family request please omit floral offerings. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
