Mrs. Elizabeth T. (Malerba) Garcea

Mrs. Elizabeth T. (Malerba) Garcea, age 90, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY. Born in Utica on December 12, 1924, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Augusto and Carmella (Giampaolo) Malerba. She was raised and educated locally. She was married to Louis Garcea who passed away in 1976. Elizabeth worked at the Mele Manufacturing Company until the age of 72. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her friends at the mall while always making time to enjoy a snack from McDonald’s. But her greatest joy was sharing in the lives of her loved ones and providing for their well-being. Always close to Elizabeth’s heart was the memory of her son, her pride and joy, Nicholas C. Garcea, who passed away on May 18, 1989. She is survived by her grandchildren, Nicholas L. Garcea (who was raised by Elizabeth as if he were her son) and his wife Jennifer Venezio-Garcea of New Hartford, and Lisa M. and Christopher Lenahan of Whitestown; and her great-grandchildren, Kayla, and Maddie Lenahan, and Ashtyn Elisabeth Garcea. Elizabeth will also be remembered by her sisters and brother-in-law, Anna LaBella of Utica, Rosemary Redanty of Rochester, and Dolores and Henry Mancini of NY Mills; and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers, Anthony N. Malerba, Albert L. Malerba, and Louis Malerba. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Presbyterian Home for CNY and Elizabeth’s physician, Dr. Steven Lagrant, for all the care and concern shown to her during her stay. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the Presbyterian Home for CNY or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Elizabeth’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
