Mrs. Eleanora M. (Pelle) Salerno

Mrs. Eleanora M. (Pelle) Salerno, age 87, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2014 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on August 26, 1926, Eleanora was the daughter of the late Dominick and Annamarie (Paladino) Pelle. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of TR Proctor High School/Class of 1944. On July 20, 1946 in St. Anthony of Padua Church she married Anthony Salerno; the couple recently celebrated their 68 year union that became more beautiful over the years because it was enhanced by their deep devotion and mutual trust. On the heels of her high school graduation, Eleanora entered the work force. She accepted a job at the State Mutual Life Insurance Company and later took a position at the General Electric Company, but foremost she was committed to caring for her husband and her son. A woman of simple pleasures, Eleanora enjoyed decorating her house for the holidays, the time she cherished celebrating dinner with her niece. During her leisure time she was happy creating arts and craft items and playing cards with friends. In the true spirit of giving, Eleanora found the time to volunteer at the Kidney Foundation. Her love, compassion, and generosity to all will be remembered and cherished. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Eleanora is survived by her husband, Anthony; her son, Joseph Salerno; and her sister, Nancy Robilatto of Albany. Her extended family includes her nieces, especially Judy and Jim Madelone of Clifton Park, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Jennie and Thomas Sharpe of Marcy, Richard and Delores Hance; and her friends, Lydia Zegarelli, and Lucy LaVine. She was predeceased by four brothers and 1 sister. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., especially Ann, for her enduring care and compassion. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South Street, corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions may be considered to the Kidney Society of the Mohawk Valley; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Eleanora’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Committal services will follow at Calvary Mausoleum Chapel.
