Edwina P. "Cindy" (Lee) Fitzpatrick

N. UTICA – Edwina P. “Cindy” (Lee) Fitzpatrick, experienced an unforeseen passing on Saturday, July 13, 2024, surrounded by her family, at the proud age of 92. Edwina was born in Utica on March 27, 1932, a daughter of the late Edward A. and Julia F. (Calogero) Lee. She was blessed to have been a graduate of Utica Free Academy/Class of 1950. On May 1, 1954, she married Robert W. “Bob” Fitzpatrick. A well-suited couple, they blended their heritages, and their family was their foremost priority. They shared 57 years together prior to Robert's passing on November 2, 2011. An accountant by trade, Cindy began her career assisting John Dillon at his local practice. She concluded her time in the workforce employed by the Custom Body Shop owned by Fred Castronovo and his family. A well-rounded person, Cindy was a spirited woman whose home was a gathering place known for togetherness, dancing, and memorable gatherings. She had a strong demeanor, great strength of character, and determination, remaining active until her last day. Cindy and Bob enjoyed traveling by automobile to visit family in the Midwest, Florida, and New Mexico, absorbing the beautiful countryside of the U.S. Bob, an avid and proficient golfer, always said “don’t teach your wife your favorite hobby,” thus he began teaching Cindy the sport, which she embraced, becoming a league golfer and serving as a secretary of the group. She engaged in the sport up until last year, it filled her days and defined her. Foremost, Cindy catered to her late husband, and her children have affectionate memories of Sundays at Sylvan Beach where she prepared pasta for Bob and the family, even though he was an "Irishman." Being a mother and giving life to three children was one of her greatest accomplishments. She was of a self-sufficient generation. She was young at heart, and when she spent time with her girls, Debra and Colleen, when they were young, she often was the center of attention among their friends. Cindy never lost sight of her son, Bob, with whom she shared that special mother and son bond. Cindy found joy in bowling, once again in a league, and she put that ball down the lane with such grace. Cindy was an active member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church, where she participated in her faith with great devotion. She was a money counter, prayed daily for other’s intentions, and was a true Catholic, living her faith with conviction. Cindy leaves her legacy to her daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Joseph P. Ancona; and son, Robert E. “Bob” Fitzpatrick and his late wife Lisa. Cindy cherished the memory of her daughter, Debra Gregory, who preceded her. Her memory will live on in her grandchildren, Saverio Scalzo, Jr., Catherine Davis, Vincent Scalzo; Stefanie Dorozynski, Melissa and Craig Dodge; Renee and Phil Dudajek, and Trista Skyberg and Jason; great-grandchildren, Aliyah Davis, Stephen Dorozynski, Anthony Dorozynski; Jackson Dodge, Mason Skyberg, and Zayne Skyberg. Cindy also leaves to cherish her memory her siblings and their spouses, Richard and Joan Lee, Theresa and Robert “Butch” Aliasso, Kathleen and Donald Broccoli, David Lia, and Rosalind "Roz" Lee. She fondly remembered her siblings who preceded her, Carmen P. Lee, Deacon John A. Lee, and Josephine T. Kilburn. She is additionally survived by her in-laws, Barbara A. Lee, Frederick Kilburn; and Kathleen Pettinelli (the late Pat Pettinelli); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Cindy was blessed with many wonderful friends who filled her life and with whom she shared many favorable times together. She was additionally predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Alice (Mallon) Fitzpatrick; in-laws, Edward Fitzpatrick, James Fitzpatrick, Victor Fitzpatrick, William Fitzpatrick, and Alice Alfano; and her niece, Julie A. (Aliasso) Lindig. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, 702 Columbia St. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Edwina’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life, which will commence at 11:15 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
