Mr. Edwin "Ed" Guzman

UTICA – Mr. Edwin Guzman, age 43, was reunited with loved ones who had gone before him when he passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in the comfort and dignity of his home, reminding the world that “God always takes the good ones.” Born in Utica on September 24, 1982, Edwin was the son of Alba Martinez and Jim Peterson. He was born to his father, Edwin Guzman, Sr. Edwin was a proud graduate of T.R. Proctor High School, Class of 2000. He later earned his degree in Graphic Communication: Illustration from MVCC. From still life to comic art, his pieces always astonished viewers. His talent was unmistakable, and his work often inspired others. A man who was always unapologetically himself, he was a kind soul who loved art and animals—but above all, his family. He was happy-go-lucky and aggressively enthusiastic about life, the kind of person whose joy filled every corner of a room. He truly adored his six siblings and was often referred to as the lowest-maintenance of them all. It wasn’t that he got into the least amount of trouble—just that he got caught the least! He was part of a dynamic duo with his brother Roger, with whom he was known to “go at it” with a round or two, but it was always full of love and lessons. As an adult, his adoration for his siblings extended to the next generation, as he loved playing with his nieces and nephews, getting right down on their level or raising them up on his shoulders. He certainly served as a beloved father figure for them and loved being an uncle; it made him feel like a kid again. He was such a prominent figure in his siblings’ and their children’s lives. He was the finest and best older brother anyone could have asked for. A man who appreciated good people, Edwin was always grateful to those who showed him kindness – and he gave it back to them in spades. He could always be counted upon to lend a helping hand. He would have given his shirt to a stranger. He brought laughter and smiles to any room he entered. His infectious smile put people at ease immediately, and he could enliven any party with his warm personality. He always encouraged others to follow their dreams, and never made anyone’s dreams feel unreachable. He will be profoundly missed by so many. Edwin loved drawing, music and dancing, and was a cinema buff. He would talk to anyone he could about movies, and knew so many of them by heart. One of his favorite pastimes was showing his siblings, nieces, and nephews good movies, particularly Little Monsters and Gremlins. He was a huge fan of comic book movies, and his favorite cartoon was He-Man. He could often be found watching Modern Family, Friends, The Office, and The Big Bang Theory. He also enjoyed creating his own original music, spending much of his time making jingles with his brother for their company Time Lab Productions. He was the inventor of “Gotta Get a Cooper Kia” and many other memorable jingles. In addition, he produced music for many local artists as well as the rapper Logic. Edwin never missed family gatherings—they were always together at Mom’s, from holidays to any day in between, and they will be saving him a seat at the table this holiday season. His presence will be felt in the silence, as he was usually the loudest of them all. They will reminisce about his catchphrases, like “Yo, imagine,” how he described life as “awesome sauce,” or when he said, “I’m out of here like a fat guy playing dodgeball.” Most importantly, they will remember that he was never afraid to tell his family and friends that he loved them—especially after a drink or two. Edwin held a private relationship with his Lord. Edwin is survived by his parents; maternal grandmother Maria Estremera; maternal grandfather, Francisco Martinez; siblings and their loves, Shanon and Anthony Price, Roger and Shayla Guzman, Alisha Fresina, Donnie Peterson, Kyle Peterson, and Nieco Peterson; nieces and nephews, Terriah, Arianna, Selena, Amora, Avianna, Alicionne, Anthony M., Jayden, Anthony “Stink,” Juney, GianLuca, Asher, and GianCarlo; and anyone who was lucky enough to call him friend and know a love like his. He was preceded by his step-grandmother, Isabel “Libby” Rosado; step-grandfather, James R. “Papa Jim” Peterson; aunt, Teresa Fresina; and great-aunt, Juani Estremera. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Edwin’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
