Edward W. "Ed" Stosal

Mr. Edward W. “Ed” Stosal, age 64, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in Rome, NY on December 15, 1949, Edward was the son of the late Joseph Paul and Lillian Stosal. Raised and educated in Rome, he attended Rome Free Academy. A proud veteran, Ed served his country in the United States Navy. On June 1, 2003 he married the former Cheryl D. Scott with whom he shared 11 years of marriage. They were a complementary team, always together while accomplishing the day’s tasks. Together they volunteered their time at the Rescue Mission, especially on holidays, and at the Salvation Army where they served as Christmas bell-ringers during their favorite time of the year. Ed previously worked as a security guard at LB Security & Investigations, Inc. and was currently employed at the Resource Center for Independent Living (RCIL) where he worked in a janitorial capacity. A dedicated employee, Ed derived fulfillment from his work and was very proud to offer his skills and services. At work and at leisure, Ed was a conversationalist who loved to talk with his friends. At home, he savored Cheryl’s home cooked meals, and loved to listen to the music compiled in his record album collection. Ed enjoyed bowling and he and Cheryl also had a zest for Bingo games which they played at local establishments. Ed was a member of the Neighborhood Center on Hopper Street, and Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Whitesboro. Ed is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his children and their families, Eddie Jr., Jason, Kim, and Kristen; his 3 grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Felix Leonard of Utica; his brother, Joseph Stosal, Jr. of Rome. His extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws Linda and Bill Hayes of Steuben, Sharon and Richard Zampa of Utica, Kathie Preston and Louise Maillette of Maine. He leaves behind his many friends; and his loyal dog, Buddy. He was predeceased his brother, Mike Stosal; and his sister-in-law, Karen V. Santamour. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00-2:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Edward’s Celebration of Life will commence on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Robert Umidi.
