Mr. Edward F. "Ted" Roberts II

FLOYD/ROME – Mr. Edward F. “Ted” Roberts II, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Utica on February 22, 1940, Edward was the son of the late Edward F., Sr. and Alberta B. (Sylvester) Roberts. As a young child, he, along with his family, moved to Floyd. He was a graduate of Holland Patent High School/Class of 1959. Edward took great pride in the fact that the generations of his family that followed would attend the same alma mater. Following high school, Edward proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Andrews Air Force Base as a refueling specialist. Ted was immensely proud of his son, Edward III, who followed in his footsteps, joining the U.S. Air Force and dedicating himself to a career serving our country. On November 24, 1962, Ted united in marriage with the former Sheryl A. Fiaschi. The couple shared a blessed and dedicated union of 62 years. Family was paramount as they journeyed through life together. A proud member of the Teamsters Union Local 182, Ted was a professional commercial tractor-trailer driver with New Penn Motor Express, Inc. He was known for his strong work ethic and would often do his own job, and then some. After his retirement from driving, Ted was pleased to be able to dedicate more of his time and energy to his family. Ted was the best dad any child could ask for. He had amassed a tremendous amount of wisdom over the years and freely shared advice with those he loved. His incredible sense of humor always kept those around him laughing. While Ted had excellent banter, he was a “man’s man” through and through and his staunch conservative opinions in politics made the backbone of his core beliefs. A lover of football, Ted was skilled enough to play semi-pro football at one time. He was even inducted into the Holland Patent Hall of Fame. Some of Ted’s favorite pastimes included listening to music and dancing with his wife, Sheryl. Ted’s family held a prominent position in his life, and he was always eager to celebrate their accomplishments. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored, affectionately called him “Grumps.” Ted took every opportunity to support their interests and endeavors, cheering them on at events and in life. Ted was very hospitable and possessed a very kind and warm heart. Prayer was his answer for anything. He was truly one of a kind. If you had Ted for a friend, you had him for life. He was extremely loyal and would defend those he loved to the very end, even if they were wrong. Despite his tough facade, Ted was deeply spiritual. He possessed a true belief in Jesus Christ, and whenever things went wrong, either in his life or in another’s, he would always lead in a prayer. “Don’t worry about it, if it is too far from your heart to kill you” were Edward’s choice words of comfort. He was also known to say, “God made a few perfect heads, the rest he put hair on!” Edward is survived by his loving wife, Sheryl; children and their spouses, Edward F. “Teddy” III and Brigitte Roberts, Dana and Kevin Hughes, Stacey and John Tyrrell, and Leslie and Scott Welpe; grandchildren and their spouses, Sonia Chavez, Krystal and Colby Roberts, Sheryl and Jason Nicholas, Brittany Landry and Bo Waffle; Alicia and Ryan Williams, Nathan and Kayla Hughes; Morgan Tyrrell, Noah Tyrrell; Emily Welpe, and Matthew Welp; and 14 cherished great-grandchildren. He fondly remembered his siblings who preceded him, Robert M. Roberts, and Dorothy A. “Dottie” (Roberts) Gokey. Ted also leaves to cherish his memory many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and in-laws, Teresa Boland, Robert Fiaschi, Susan Fiaschi, Edward and Linda Fiaschi, and Wendy McGrady. His life would not have been complete without his best friends, Jerry Doyle, Steve D’Agostino, Pat Leone, Dean, and Chris Titus, Tim Burham, and Bob Keller. He was additionally predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph W. and Wanda Mae (Cummings) Fiaschi. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staffs of the Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Rome Health Hospital for their care and compassion, especially acknowledging nurse Kelly for her loving and caring heart. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South Street, corner of Hammond Ave. Ted’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military Honors will be conferred by the U.S. Air Force.
