Mr. Edward R. Mrzlikar

Mr. Edward R. Mrzlikar, age 86, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the St. Joseph Nursing Home, with his loving family by his side. Born in Little Falls, NY on April 11, 1925, Edward was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Logar) Mrzlikar. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he honorably served his country during World War II. On July 9, 1949 he married the former Carmen M. Grenier with whom he shared 62 years; they shared their life and their dreams, and loved each other unconditionally. Edward pursued his profession as a civil engineer with the New York State Department of Transportation, the position from which he retired. Blessed with strength and breadth of stature, he also harbored a soft, gentle heart. He had a very complimentary way about him, and within his soul dwelt a kind, gentle, and generous nature. His wife was the love of his life, and he was a very loving and active father, always there, offering his support and guidance. He enjoyed taking trips with his family, golfing, swimming, and keeping up with world events. Ed was a spiritual and devout Catholic. Edward is survived by his wife, Carmen; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Peter Cataldo of Rome, Bernice Mrzlikar of Utica, Carol and Brian Dodge of Fulton, and Kathryn Blanche and Glenn Palmer of Grovetown, GA; his grandchildren, Chena and Steve Campanaro, Peter A. and Victoria Cataldo, Breann Dodge, Dustyn Palmer, and Chelsea Palmer; and his great-grandchildren, Severino Campanaro, and Torino Campanaro. In addition, he leaves his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Dolores Mrzlikar of Utica. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister-in-law, William and Kate, and Daniel; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Paul, and Kate and Russ. The family extends deep appreciation to Dr. William Ryan, Dr. Edward Lee, Dr. Kevin Nelsen, Dr. Dilip Kachare, Dr. Ronald Kaye, and the loving and caring staff at the St. Joseph Nursing Home for the excellent care rendered to Edward during his stay. The family will honor and commemorate Edward’s life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday morning at 10:00 at the St. Joseph Nursing Home Chapel where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Abe Esper. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Those wishing to express an act of kindness may make a donation to the St. Joseph Nursing Home, the American Heart Association, or the American Lung Association; envelopes will be available at the service. Entombment will take place in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
