Mrs. Edith P. (Plato) Luce

Mrs. Edith P. (Plato) Luce, age 79, of Sacramento, California and formerly of Utica, passed away in the comfort of her home on Thursday, April 28, 2016. Born in Lowville, NY on May 18, 1936, Edith was the daughter of the late Donald and Margaret (Volo) Plato. She was a graduate of Lowville High School. On October 3, 1961 she married Anthony S. Luce with whom she shared 54 years in a loving, supportive union graced with the blessings of their family. Edith pursued her career in healthcare at the St. Elizabeth College of Nursing where she completed her course work and received her credentials as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She furthered her calling by earning her license as a Professional Registered Nurse and accepted a position at Faxton Hospital in the Operating Room, a career for which she was well-suited because she enjoyed helping people. She and her husband relocated to southern California in 1962 and in 1965 they made Sacramento their home. Edith’s maternal instincts made her a great mother. She was humble and subservient to her family’s needs. She enjoyed cooking, listening to music, and bowling with her husband. She cherished her friendships, and she had a fondness for all God’s creatures, especially her cats. She was of the Catholic faith. Edith is survived by her husband, Anthony Salvatore Luce; and her sons, Joseph A. Luce, and Salvatore A. Luce, both of California. She was preceded by her son, Anthony J. Luce, who passed away as a child on August 13, 1962 and two infant baby girls, Eugenia Veronica and Theresa Marie. She also leaves her grandchildren, Anthony “AJ” Luce of IL, and Zachary White of CA; her brother and sister-in-law, George and Wilhelmina Plato of FL; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and their families; and sister-in-law, Marie Luce of Utica. She was predeceased by her sister, Bonnie L. Suma; her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph Luce, Louis Luce, and Pasquale and Phyllis Luce. The family extends sincere appreciation to the staff of the Kaiser Hospital in South Sacramento, California and Hospice & Palliate Care, Inc. for their efforts and outstanding medical care provided to Edith. Visitation will be held Sunday (today) from 4-6 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Edith’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society; envelopes will be available at the service. Edith’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 10:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Joseph Salerno. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will follow graveside at Calvary Cemetery.
