Mrs. Edith B. (Macera) Guarnieri

Mrs. Edith B. (Macera) Guarnieri, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Masonic Care Community of NY with her husband and loved ones by her side. Born in Utica on October 4, 1925, Edith was the daughter of the late Modesto and Theresa (Tedesco) Macera. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School Class of 1944. Edith worked as a Credit Manager for Charles Millar Supply Company for 30 years. In 1974 she relocated to Minnesota where she obtained a position as Supervisor of Credit and Collections at Fairview Community Hospital, but more importantly it was there that she was blessed to raise her 2 step children with whom she has maintained a relationship. Edith practiced her faith at St. Rose of Lima and enjoyed singing in their church choir. She made many long lasting friendships that exist to this day, especially with Sandy and Jim Olson, and Jean Wagner. She returned home to the Utica area in 1983 to be closer to family. On January 17, 1992, along with their family and friends Edith exchanged vows with Carmen E. Guarnieri. They were a charming couple supporting each other’s desires and found great commitment and joy as their lives unfolded. Edith was successful along with Carmen in the blending of their family and friends from their past lives. As a couple they enjoyed a bit of travelling and were a sociable team. Edith was fun loving, outgoing, humble, and a stylish woman who adorned herself with perfection. She was a lovely hostess, and in earlier years had her own style of entertaining which has become a lost art. She delighted in many friendships not only those close to her heart, but those she came to know through everyday encounters. Although afflicted with a difficult illness, Edith’s beautiful spirit endured many transitions; but she was always kind, had a smile on her face, and was concerned about others- the colors of her being did not fade. She was guided by her Catholic faith and was dutiful to St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church celebrations and functions. She was proud to have been a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Church Choir in her younger years, as well as being an avid bowler with area leagues, a member of the Utica Lions Club Auxiliary, and the Parkway Senior Center harmonizing with the members of the Silvertones. One of the most enjoyable gatherings that she held sacred were the monthly luncheons with the “Cousins Club”. Edith is survived by her devoted husband, Carmen; his children who considered Edith their “second mother”, Jody Guarnieri, and Carmenann Guarnieri; her step-children, Alan Countryman, and Elaine and Scott Jensen; her grandchildren, Robert and Lisa Robertaccio, Cara and Greg Greer, Kristyn and Tony Masone, Joseph Gigliotti, Sheila Jensen, Steven and Stephanie Jensen; and her numerous great-grandchildren. Left to carry on her memory are many cousins, especially Louise Centolella who was also her best friend. She was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Macera; and her sister, Grace Macera. Carmen extends sincere appreciation to the entire staff of the Masonic Care Community of NY, especially the Saranac Household. They treated Edith with respect, dignity, and loving regard. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the St. Anthony and St. Agnes Renovation Fund in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Edith’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 11:00 from the funeral home and at 12:00 noon at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski, and concelebrants Rev. Arthur Krawczenko, and Rev. Mr. William Dischiavo as Deacon of the mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
