Earl F. "Butch" Fredenburg

Mr. Earl Franklin Fredenburg, age 61, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 7, 2006, in the comfort of his home. Born on May 12, 1945 in Hermon, NY, Earl was the son of the late William E. and Vivian (Allen) Fredenburg. He was raised and educated in Hermon, NY. A proud veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years. At one time, he was married to the former Lorraine Blackburn. Earl was a “Jack of all Trades” engaged in a variety of occupations, including being a certified welder, specializing in finish carpentry. At one time, he was involved with the Paris Hill Volunteer Fire Department. Meticulous and organized, Earl was a man who held strong to his convictions while maintaining a gentle demeanor. He valued and respected the outdoors and the responsibilities that were inherent in the preservation of the natural world, and he instilled these ideals in his sons. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and had an extensive rifle collection. He was happiest when he was outdoors for sport or leisure with his loyal group of friends. As a pastime, he enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. Mr. Fredenburg is survived by his son, Donald R. Fredenburg, Sr., and his life companion, Joann Cowley of Utica; his daughter, Laurie Monahan, of Utica. He held dear to his heart the memory of his sons, Michael John Fredenburg, who passed away in 1993, and Earl F. Fredenburg III, who passed away in infancy. In addition, he leaves his grandchildren, who will dearly miss ‘Grandpa’: Donald “DJ”, Adam, Kristy, Larry, and Mike; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna and Brook Hensen of CA, Ruth and George Crowley of SC, Bill and Barbara Fredenburg of Rochester; his step-sisters, Joanne Dusharm, and Rosalie Enslow; his step-brothers, Andy Hill, and Joe Hill; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; his Aunt Eleanor Cole of Theresa, NY; and his many special friends and group of hunting buddies; and his feline companion, Butch. He was predeceased by many uncles and aunts, with special mention of Uncle Earl, after whom he was named. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial gathering today (Friday) from 5-6 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Earl’s honor to the Paris Hill Volunteer Fire Department; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mr. Fredenburg’s Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will commence at 6:00 p.m. at the conclusion of visitation officiated by Pastor Sarah Lewis. Interment will take place in the Hermon Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
